Stop the Nuk-u-LAR option! (Forgive me for posting this here)
I know that this isn't election reform related so please forgive me. I wouldn't post it here except 1) it's so important and 2) you guys are all kick butt. Mods, if you move it, I'll understand.

So, we are trying to save the filibuster. Here are 3 petitions to sign:

Kerry has one:

This one was posted by sandandsea:

Another one:

Let's pass these along and get this stopped!

If you have any free cell phone minutes, please call your Senator and tell them to please protect the filibuster!

Posting this all over the place.

1. Thanks, arnheim.
I watched the RW press conference at noon EDT today and those self-righteous, bloated bullies mean business.

They are so convinced that reality is theirs to create and define.

10. My senators Are Cornyn and Hutchison
Those are the folks who reallly need to hear how displeased we are with their POOR behavior and it does have an effect on them sometimes. Call your Senator today and tell then blocking the filibuster and turning our democracy into a one party state is NOT OK by you. Do It! You'll Feel Better!

11. I have Dole and Burr but I called them
Oh, yes. I called them and reminded them that I am a VOTER and that I am watching.

If this goes through, election reform is history and we are officially a dictatorship.

13. Couple of points
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 09:53 PM by Bill Bored
I signed one of these of course, but just for the record, at the moment the nuke thing is only against filibusters for judicial nominations.

So does anyone know if it's possible to stop ALL filibusters?

Secondly, some Dems are talking about shutting down the govt if this goes through. Now I know some of them are worried about the negative consequences of that, but I ask you, given the kind of crap they've been engaged in lately, such as the bankruptcy bill, all Schaivo all the time, and Tom DeLay introducing bills to fix parking tickets, would it really be THAT BAD to pull a Newt Gingrich and shut it all down for a while until they learn how to behave themselves in a democracy?

Do the Dems have enough votes to do this? If they did, could they spin it the right way i.e., that the government hasn't been doing anything for ordinary citizens since 1999 anyway, so why not shut it down as a better alternative to continued movement in the WRONG frickin' direction? The polls might support that right?

And to start the govt back up again, demand VERIFIABLE Voting so at least we know whether anyone was actually ELECTED!
