O boy, I got this letter about voting machines back from RICK SANTORUM!
This in response to my asking him to co-sponsor Ensign's VIVA Bill, earlier this year:

----------

March 14, 2005

Dear Ms. Xxxxxx,

Thank you for contacting me regarding voting accuracy in U.S. Elections. I appreciate hearing from you and having the benefit of your news.

On May 18, 2004 Senator John Ensign of Nevada introduced S. 2437, the Voting Integrity Act of 2004. This legislation amends the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) by providing voter-verified paper ballots. S. 2437 would allow voters to review an example ballot in paper form before casting their vote and a completed paper copy of their ballot after voting. In addition, this measure would provide a range of provisions to ensure voting accuracy. Direct-recording electronic polling places would be mandated to keep paper copies of cast ballots. This system, also known as the voter-verified paper audit trail, would track all votes cast. S. 2437 would also require all paper ballots to be stored at the polling place where they were cast and would designate them as the primary verification tool for recount purposes.

You may be interested to know that on October 16, 2002, the Senate passed HAVA, a measure designated to bring about much needed reform of our voting system. I strongly supported passage of this bipartisan legislation. The final measure provided federal grants, established federal requirements for voting systems and voter registration, and created the Election Assistance Commission. President Bush signed this measure into law (P.L. 107-252) on October 29, 2002. I am pleased that Congress has taken steps to reform our voting system. I am confident that Congress will protect the rights of the voting public by ensuring equal opportunity, doing so in a manner compatible with each state's prerogative to regulate their election process.

As you may know, the Senate did not act upon S. 2437 prior to adjournment of the 108th Congress on December 8, 2004. Any bill not signed into law prior to adjournment must be reintroduced during a subsequent Congress in order to receive consideration. The areas of concern that you address likely will be the subject of discussion during the 109th Congress, and in the event that legislation regarding this issue is reintroduced, I will be sure to keep your views in mind. Thank you again for contacting me. If I can be of further assistance with this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to call on me again.

Sincerely,

Rick Santorum
United States Senate

RJS/mac

1. UNBELIEVABLE!
And I try not to use caps, but this is way out of touch.

I'm glad, at least, it wasn't a lecture on "Voter Fraud"

2. Don't worry
I think we can take this fool down in the next election. I don't know if you've seen this site http://www.savv.org/ It sounds like an optimum solution. I just hope that the local BOE are willing to judge bases on reality and ethics.

3. Can somebody explain to me the danger here?
I don't see anything wrong with Santorum's bill he is talking about, it forces the use of a voter verified paper ballot for every voter.

But I mean I know Santorum is a real bad guy, and is like a crony for these fascist cult members. But he sure didn't try to sabatoge the state's bill, maybe he had no choice but to sign off on Nevada's request for the verified ballot.

If there's something I missed though I'd like it pointed out.
