8. a few more, a broken link, a comment
broken link:
United For Secure Elections http://www.ohioforward.org

These additions come to mind:
CASE-America
Rainbow PUSH
Velvet Revolution
U.S. House of Reps Judiciary Committee Democratic Staff
Nashua Advocate

Some of your listings aren't really groups, but websites.

Then there are the individuals, such as Richard Hayes Phillips, Ph.D. who aren't groups. (His site is http://web.northnet.org/minstrel/alpage.htm).
and Blogs, of course.

What's the name of the group putting on the Nashville conference?

I don't know what project you're working on, but are you distinguishing between folks working on election reform and folks working on election justice? In my mind, the distinction is that the reform piece is what we try to change for the future and the justice piece also includes seeking remedies/repercussions for what has happened in the past.

14. emlev, thanks for the comments
I want ANY and EVERY URL concerning either election reform or election justice. Blogs, Yahoo groups, websites, group names, whatever is out there. I'm putting it all in a database where I categorize them according to what they are.

It is not so important to separate them here, just get as many as I can.

Also, even if they are just websites, chances are there is a person behind the website, right? I want to reach that one person as well as the groups with many members.

As for election reform vs. election justice, again - reform will mean seeking remedies and repercussions for fraud. You can't really have one without the other as folks will continue to commit fraud if they think that they can't be punished.

I don't want to just get links. We need to communicate with these folks.

I'm picturing groups from FL or NC or OH interacting with groups from all over the country, sharing information and backing each other up in the fight! We can't do that without 1) knowing who all is out there and 2) knowing how to get in touch with them.

* has mobilized us all. That is the only good thing to come out of his useless administration so far.

38. Don't forget PDA! We got you the Conyers hearings ;)
"In the five years that I have worked in Congress for Rep. John Conyers as a senior legislative assistant, the PDA is the most effective progressive national organization that I have worked with. On a shoe string budget, the PDA was able to move the issue of voter suppression in Ohio to the very top of the Congressional Radar Screen because of its extensive grassroots base, and the PDA's technical wizardry of the internet. As a result of their efforts, Rep. John Conyers has introduced legislation that protects voters from disenfranchisement. The far right has the Christian Coalition, Rush Limbaugh, Heritage, and Carol Rove. We now have the PDA! Without the Progressive Democrats of America, we simply will not have an organized grassroots lobby to effectively counter the powerful and well funded right wing, which currently has the political strength to privatize Social Security, dismantle Medicaid and Medicare, and dramatically reduce funding for affordable housing, education, and job programs. The PDA is rapidly developing a committed and energized grassroots base across the country; something the Christian Coalition and the far right have already accomplished. Finally, democratic party activists, through the leadership of the PDA, are fighting back the right! Thank God for the PDA! With adequate funding, I am confident the PDA will become a new grassroots political force that will move America in the right direction." - Joel Segal, Senior Legislative Assistant for Rep. John Conyers

41. Kevin, you dashing beast, how could I forget PDA?
I have PDA on the list but you guys aren't working directly on election reform so I didn't include your site on this post. You ARE in the database and categorized as an ally to our work. :)

I didn't want to list all 283 links here, just the ones that are working on election reform/justice primarily.

It is important to have as many of these other groups as possible as we will need their help to achieve our goals.

Its all good, research is research.

The Malaysia story was fresh, and the one about unreported Deibold lobbying payments for the guys company that was hired by the california secretary of state.

I say we need new investigative material, and blackboxvoting.org has got a couple stories out this month that no one else had.

I don't care about who likes who but I do like good quality investigative work and they do that there.

68. great collection of links, I need some advice. I need to start gently and
convince our county party chair that not only did election fraud happen, but it is fixable. Here was the comment I got: "I don't believe in all the conspiracy theories, because if I buy into that then all I am doing is a waste and everything we are trying to accomplish is a waste and I shouldn't even bother, elections will never be perfect.

I told him it is fixable. I asked him if he was aware that lots of countries, even third world countries have more democratic elections and he absolutely refused to even talk about it.

This really blew my mind, but it is too important to blow off. Dems need to acknowledge that this exists and unless it is addressed and corrected then the rest of his statement is correct. It is all a waste. Without free and fair elections all other issues are moot.

Please give me some advice on how to approach him and what information to give him. I'm not sure what he does for a living but obviously the mental processes are in denial or he thinks in black and white terms, both of which are alien to my way of thinking.

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated

69. Yep. Start gently.
Do you want to convince them the 2004, at least, election was stolen. Or do you want him to look at verifiable systems.

He wouldn't necessarily need to buy into the former to embrace the latter.

74. refer to the experts
the US Count Votes report is signed by a bunch of PhDs, that may help crack the ice. It's all about getting a foot in the door. If you can just get him to look at it objectively the facts speak for themselves. Even without proof that it was stolen, most people admit it is not right to have paperless systems that can't be recounted, and partisan companies (funded by defense contractors) making the machines that count our votes.

most people agree our election process should be open to the public. it's even a law that it should be. But it is not. That's what we need to fix. Maybe shy away from trying to convince him that it was stolen and focus more on the problems that exist today.

also helps to point out all the legitimate organizations that are getting involved in the effort to fix the system. it's not a bunch of wackos.

82. Voter Confidence Committee
www.voterconfidencecommittee.org

This is an organization that has been formed in Humboldt County, CA to pursue passage of the Voter Confidence Resolution (below) and to individually advocate for implementation of the reforms listed therein. Our work has led to a town hall forum in Eureka on preferential voting; the resolution is expected to get a public hearing soon in Arcata; and we are lobbying the County Supervisors not to continue their negotiations for the purchase of Diebold machines and instead to support the development of the Open Voting Consortium's awesome open source solution.

Voter Confidence Resolution
(v6.0, LAST UPDATED: 4/23/05 11pm)

Whereas an election is a competition for the privilege of representing the people; and

Whereas each voter is entitled to cast a single ballot to record his or her preferences for representation; and

Whereas the records of individual votes are the basis for counting and potentially re-counting a collective total and declaring a winner; and

Whereas an election's outcome is a matter of public record, based on a finite collection of immutable smaller records; and

Whereas a properly functioning election system should produce unanimous agreement about the results indicated by a fixed set of unchanging records; and

Whereas recent U.S. federal elections have been conducted under conditions that have not produced unanimous agreement about the outcome; and

Whereas future U.S. federal elections cannot possibly produce unanimous agreement as long as any condition permits an inconclusive count or re-count of votes; and

Whereas inconclusive counts and re-counts have occurred during recent U.S. federal elections due in part to electronic voting devices that do not produce a paper record of votes to be re-counted if necessary; and

Whereas inconclusive results have also been caused by election machines losing data, producing negative vote totals, showing more votes than there are registered voters, and persistently and automatically swapping a voter's vote from his or her chosen candidate to an opponent; and

Whereas inconclusive results make it impossible to measure the will of the people in their preferences for representation; and

Whereas the Declaration of Independence refers to the Consent of the Governed as the self-evident truth from which Government derives "just Power";

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

Because inconclusive results, by definition, mean that the true outcome of an election cannot be known, there is no basis for confidence in the results reported from U.S. federal elections; and

Be it also resolved:

Ensuring conclusive results is only one necessary step toward creating a new basis for voter confidence in U.S. federal elections. Additional reforms that would take further steps toward building voter confidence include:

1) voting processes owned and operated entirely in the public domain, and
2) clean money laws to keep all corporate funds out of campaign financing, and
3) a voter verifiable paper ballot for every vote cast and additional uniform standards determined by a non-partisan nationally recognized commission, and
4) declaring election day a national holiday, and
5) counting all votes publicly and locally in the presence of citizen witnesses and
credentialed members of the media, and
6) equal time provisions to be observed by the media along with a measurable increase in local, public control of the airwaves, and
7) presidential debates containing a minimum of three candidates, run by a non-partisan commission comprised of representatives of publicly owned media outlets, and
8) instant runoff voting (see H.R. 5293) and proportional representation to replace the winner-take-all system for federal elections;

Be it further resolved:

When elections are conducted under conditions that prevent conclusive outcomes, the Consent of the Governed is not being sought. Absent this self-evident source of legitimacy, such Consent is not to be assumed or taken for granted.

Not exactly election reform, more like investigative assistance. We gather information to help those seriously researching or auditing counties in Florida. We also have precinct data and information for Floridians interested in recounting their area.
