California needs your calls. Hello, they're trying to take CALIFORNIA
First, they came after our governor.

Then, they came after our Secretary of State -- the first one to decertify Diebold.

Now, the Enron backed governer will get to chose a new SOS.

We need your help:

Please call the Los Angeles Registrar of Voters. Tell her you will fight for a voter verified paper ballot -- which she is trying to sabotage.

http://regrec.co.la.ca.us/connybio.htm (form)

562-466-1310 (voter information: call anyway. no general # posted._

Please email the LATimes, SactoBEE, SFChron. Let them know you will fight against black box voting.
letters@latimes.com
letters@sfchronicle.com
letters@sacbee.com

Please call State Senator Romero. Tell her that the California vote is as vulnerable to hacking as Ohio was, as Florida was, as New Mexico and Nevada. Ask her how much of her homework she has done on the issue of electronic voting machines.
323 881-0100
http://democrats.sen.ca.gov/senator/romero/

Please call the Gropenator. Let him know we are watching him on this issue. That the security of our vote is NOT negotiable.

2. Thanks, sfexpat, especially for the newspaper emails--such a handy...
...little list. I've been so busy with the educational letter to CA legislators, I hadn't got onto the media yet.

Why Romero in particular? Did she say something about Ohio, Florida, etc.? I don't recall.
I just sent her a version of the LETTER OF THE WEEK. She's, uh, East L.A., I think. Probably in touch with Maxine Waters who is pretty hot on the Ohio election fraud issue.

You got any whiff of who might be proposed? Or any sense that Shelley might change his mind?

3. Romero went out of her way to call for the resignation
I can't honestly say more.

And there's no whiff yet. When I get one, I sure will let you know.

My guess is, given that Ahnohld is a wildcard and that our Dems are in disarray, we should gird for the worst. That's why it's so important for us to make noise NOW.

Okay, I'm going to go trolling for that whiff. Please help kick.

5. Called the Gropenator with 2 questions.
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 05:05 PM by sfexpat2000
I asked, when will he announce the Shelley replacement for SOS; in the next week.

I asked, what is his position on voter verified paper ballots and was told, he's in favor.

And then wrapped up, there are thousands of CA voters very concerned about this issue. Will he address it when announcing Shelley's replacement? Answer was, don't know but will pass on the message.

Can any of you help out with calling on this issue?

7. What isn't working? You mean not enough people getting involved?
I've started two threads on this and had only a modest amount of hits. I don't think people understand the significance of this if they didn't know before about Shelley VS Diebold.

HAVE YOU CALLED BOXER? I haven't because I am not a constituent, but if I were, I'd be calling all her CA offices and her DC office and making sure she knew how significant this is.

13. If we lose CA to e-voting, all she's fighting for will be lost. She is
interested in election reform. I just decided I am going to call her myself even though I am out of state, because dammit, if CA goes, the whole country goes. And I agree with you, there has to be a way to get the word out on this. We need a massive effort like we had to make Jan. 6 happen.

21. Maybe Amaryllis' phrase (in a post below) is the key...
to spread around: "If CA goes, the whole country goes"...that's the gist of it & why it's so important. (And also, be as specific as possible about what action to take, so that as many people as possible act.)

If I understand it correctly, this all in essence boils down to:

If

1) the SOS is picked by a Republican,

then

2) CA goes to e-voting;

thus

3) all CA's electoral votes are gone and the Dems are sunk.

Is this right?

29. That's right! That's why we need to let every politician
who cares about Ohio, about voting legislation, about Blackwell know what an extreme hypocrisy this is, especially since the EAC is spending months investigating Shelley for partisan spending of HAVA funds!

And not a peek towards Blackwell? This is our opening!

I faxed all the Dems in Ohio about it.

Look all it took to get the EAC to investigate Shelley-- a few newspaper articles, that's what brought the EAC. So now there is no reason not to investigate Blackwell and blow this allegiance to BBV out of the water.

And this with Dems attacking Shelley makes it a bipartisan issue--it's the machines! There's no argument.

35. I just had a thought...
I think more people know about Katherine Harris than Blackwell, because of all the media coverage in 2000.

So a headline that says something to Californians like "Would you want Katherine Harris to oversee your elections?" might get attention.

legislature. I told Boxer, Conyers, and all of those who voted nay on thankyoupatriot.com what is going on, plus all the Honorable Mentions.

Thanks, frictionlessO and Chili! I put at the bottom of all the faxes to people listed there that I found out they cared about voting rights on www.thankyoupatriot.com

:yourock:

I also faxed all of the Joint Audit Committee members, Republicans as well to let them know that voting rights activists think this is a travesty and we are reporting it to the House Judiciary Committee via Conyers.

I put Conny McCormack's name in the letter to all, saying in CAPS do not let her undo what Shelley has done.

Tomorrow I will work on LTE's and write Scwharzenegger. I think I may have found someone working insidiously with the media, Marc Strassman, who took the fake stories in the SF Chronicle and the SJ Mercury and got the EAC involved.

At least this sure points out in stark relief to Sensenbrenner and anyone else who cares, that there is some dishonest investigating going on--investigate Shelley, but not Blackwell? :wtf: and it should not be left up to the states or to the EAC.

34. I read Andy's comment about Conny McCormack
and I couldn't sleep because I think he might be right that they are going to appoint her....

Why not? She appears to do an "excellent job" as long as you don't mind not knowing the real votes. She would be the excellent choice for seamless rigging....period.

I think Andy is right because of what I read that Victor Nunez said--that they should appoint a "nonpartisan" SoS this time, not someone "political". Nevermind that she's married to DRE's with no verification...and just because someone doesn't state their party it doesn't mean there aren't special interests.

So what can we do?????????

36. Let's work smart--here are some ideas
Think exponentially:
What can I do that will create ripples of effect?
One obvious way is to email people and ask them to email others, etc.
Make it easy for people to take action. Include a link to contact information for state legislators and Schwarzenegger.

State Legislature: http://www.legislature.ca.gov/

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
State Capitol Building
Sacramento, CA 95814
Phone: 916-445-2841
Fax: 916-445-4633
To send an Electronic Mail please visit:
http://www.govmail.ca.gov

Make appointments to talk in person to your assembly members and state senators or their staffs. They have offices in their districts as well as in Sacramento. Make sure you've done your homework, have your talking points, and know what you want to ask for.

Be the media. Be the media. Be the media. Put a sign on your lawn or your SUV (just kidding, I'm sure you don't have one). Call in to radio shows. Talk to folks at your community access television station about devoting time to this issue. Hold a town meeting.

Remember to talk to people you may not agree with on all issues. There are honest people of all political persuasions. Help them understand how they would be affected by an unscrupulous SoS.

Notice when you're getting stuck spending your time reading DU posts rather than taking action. Spend at least as much time acting as reading--preferably more!
