Rep. Paul (R-Tx) speaks against US being world police...
and other problematic policies.

Understandinglife pointed it out here, but no one seemed to notice. This is significant! We need thank him and bring him into the fold.

2. Ron Paul says some great things...
...and is one of those on my very short "Republicans I respect" list, but he'd NEVER become a Democrat. He might go Independent or Libertarian, but don't think he'd sign on to the Democratic party.

3. Republicans LOATHE Paul. He is an outcase in congress.
damn shame the democrats loathe him too. Libertarians are unpopular with both sides of the aisle.

4. The point of bringing him into the fold
is not to get him to switch parties. Quite the contrary... the point is that there are Republicans -- both politicians and constituents --who are just as aware of the debacle that is the * presidency as we are, and just as alarmed and angry. We need them to work with us toward the common goal of addressing the crucial policies, rather than against us just because we're the opposing party.

Having legislators in the majority party who are willng to speak the truth about the issues is a good thing. They are the ones who can introduce legislation, or vote accordingly, thereby diluting the advantage of the "majority", which is a very real obstacle to change that needs to be overcome.

There may be a lot more of them out there who have seen and had enough... if they get serious about challenging the administration, it could help sway public opinion by garnering some actual media coverage (maybe), and more importantly, lessen the threat of automatic rubber-stamping of everything the White House wants.
Bi-partisan cooperation is the key, not hoping for defections from the Republican side.

6. Excellent Point Moosepoop
My husband and I just read the Paul letter on Truthout and were thrilled to see anyone from the other side come out with such excellent questions against current policy. Bringing moderate Republicans on board is totally necessary to try and stop Bush's erosion of what I deem the meaning of Democracy and Freedom....whether we're talking election fraud or the war in Iraq.

What will be your legacy.

Thank you for pointing out that which I should have been clearer about.

Welcome Aboard.
