Hiding lies with the truth
To all those who are willing to dismiss the staggering possibilities of fraud because of auditless vote-counting software in favor of the "moral values" fundamentalist turnout, the poor campaigning by the Democrats, etc:
None of the reasons currently being pimped by the media for the stunning loss on Tuesday are necessarily false. Nor is the ineptness of the Democratic Party for the past few decades. But these reasons provide an aura of plausibility for some very strange results we are seeing.
Don't dismiss it.

1. Can't agree.............
see TIA's analysis of the exit polling/reported results. Explain that first, then we can talk about what may or may not have motivated voters to vote.

2. You're not getting what I'm saying.
I'm saying that there is legitimacy in these trends and thus they are used to explain the odd results. It SOUNDS plausible and therefore no one questions. They are red herrings to keep people from examining the weird results. Many people here are buying into it already.

3. Legitimacy in what trends?
22% of exit pollers say moral values is #1 item on their feeble minds. 80% voted for Bush. I belived Bush earned no more than 45MM votes. That means there are 15MM tops hardcore "moral values" people in an electorate of 120MM. There is nothing we need to do in terms of moving our Party to meet these voters. The 65MM disenfranchised voters need to have their votes counted properly and we'd see our ideas valiated in the marketplace of ideas.

4. Absolutely correct
The most effective lies are those based on a grain of truth. The media is (intentionally or not) drawing attention away from the fraud issue by focusing on all of the other possible explanations for the unexpected election results.

Based on the behavior of the media in the past four years, I would bet that they are directly reporting republican talking points without really making any kind of analysis.

5. Agree. But wasn't the #1 issue/concern for repugs TERROR???
That's what we were told right up to the election...or until the Osama tape showed up. Most people responded that the Osama tape would definitely hurt shrub....so they had to come up with some other reason that people would turn out en masse for the chimp.

And then we, at DU, start wringing our hands and fighting with one another about whose fault it is: do we blame gays, pro-choice, or even liberalism itself???

6. When an election is stolen as this one was,
any theorizing about your candidate, the campaign, the reasons people voted are immaterial. The only thing that can explain it is that the machine didn't record the vote for the person it was supposed to.

7. The media is doing DAMAGE CONTROL
That's the term to use against them. Not "spin." Damage control. They will nickel and dime the issue to death and hope we lose focus on the real cause for the election result: FRAUD.

They are in a weak position because they are lying and they know it. I'm sick of their posturing and huffing and puffing and trying to blow the truth down.
