Dialing In For Democracy - Now Is Critical
by Thom Hartmann

Jeff Taylor is one of Vermont's three electors - representatives elected by the citizens of Vermont to vote for President of the United States. He and his two peers have joined the electors of several other states in signing resolutions asking their state's congressional delegation to protest the Ohio slate of electors.

"If they can have fair elections in Kiev," Taylor told me, "why not in Cleveland?"

Here's what troubles Taylor:

If you flip a coin a hundred times, odds are that around fifty times it will come up heads and fifty times tails. In reality, it may be 49-51 or even 47-53, but it will always pretty much evenly split. That's the nature of random events, including random errors and mistakes.

1. Another excellent piece by Thon Hartmann - and commondreams.org rocks
for sticking with the fraud stories. Unlike some other news portals we could mention.

7. The MSM is a ...................
solely owned division of BushCo. and may not be used in any way without the expressed written consent of BushCo. Inc.
There is no Free Press in this country anymore. If they're not working directly for BushCo. they've been so cowered by these cheap thugs that they dare not say anything remotely antagonistic toward them.
Anyway you look at it, we're screwed.

10. Dialing In For Democracy
Does anyone really think anything will come of this? Blackwell et al refused to appear before the House Judiciary Committee even though subpoenaed. Nothing but a cascade of lies and deception has proceeded from the Bush White House since his installation by judicial fiat in 2000. Now we are in a war based on misrepresentation of fact and prosecuted on terms questionable both from a Constitutional point of view and in violation of the conventions of international law. And do the Democrats have any fight? I don't see it. We are in danger in this country. The Republicans are going to be flanked on the right within a generation and guys like Orrin Hatch will constitute the new political center. The USA has become a right wing country. Perhaps it always has been. Twenty four hours a day of brainwashing by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, and Fox News have managed to redefine the terms in which political discourse occurs. They even have too many people believing that the corporate media has a liberal bias. Audacity and contempt for the truth are the foundations of the neoconservative order. It would all be laughable if it weren't such a vile (but successful) strategy. It is not a pretty picture.

12. Dialing in for Democracy
New member/poster here. I think we may be the only liberal Dems in central Calif. Who knew this was a bastion of Republicanism when we moved here 3 years ago?
But it sounds like all the emails I've been sending to Barbara Boxer are paying off. She can be a real hero now. I've also tried calling her today on the 800 #, but have not been able to get thru.
George Bush is a liar without conscience, a thief, and an environmental terrorist. This is an administration based on fear. As Hitler sidekick, Hermann Goering, said: "It is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country". Sound familiar?

18. Your father is a good man! I used to work out at the same health spa..
that he did. We kept the politics rather low, but, I could tell he had some strong feelings; as did I!

15. The SEC demands more internal controls than Fed Elections
The SEC and IRS require an extensive amount of internal controls for publicly traded companies in the US. Why don't we hold Federal elections to the same standard?
