Agh! The naive optimism of some democrats is unnerving.
Actually heard today:

"Oh well, at least it was a close race. Bush will realize he needs to be careful about what he does as a result."

WHAT?!?

2000 was a close race for a first term. That certain didn't engender any caution on his part. What makes anyone think he'd be any more conciliatory as a lame duck president? Bless the optimistic soul, but give me realism any day. It's a lot safer in the long run.

3. Bush didn't even win four years ago
That didn't keep him from running to the right and governing like he got every vote in the country.

We're in trouble.

6. Well said.

As upset as I am about the outcome, I have to face the facts before me: Kerry is down by 130,000 in Ohio and there are about 200K provisional ballots left to be counted. That's not impossible, but it's a longshot.

And to think that Bush* will be more careful and thoughtful this time around when he has no reelection to worry about borders on insanity.

7. Nobody believes that.
Whoever said it was probably just trying to console themselves. The Bush gang is already tossing the word "mandate" around.

8. Hah!
Now that * doesn't have to think of reelection, he can do *everything* he's wanted to do. Last term, he had to at least give the impression that he's a "compassionate conservative" yadda, yadda, yadda. Now....oh dear.
