Blood-boiling ANGRY!!!!
I just received in today's mail the most offensive piece of mail I think I have EVER received. The return address on the envelope has "Vote-Race" as the sender and then a POB. I opened this and enclosed is a single sheet of paper with the following typed in red:

DONATIONS to TERRY "the jerk" McAULIFFE: $ xxxxx.

DONATIONS to LOSING DEMOCRAT CANDIDATES: $ xxxx.

ELECTION DAY RESULTS: PRICELESS

and then there is a large sign like I have seen as bumper stickers: black background, with a huge white W and beside it the words:

Still
THE PRESIDENT
(underlined in red and then the date,)
NOVEMBER 2, 2004

Man! What class, huh? Not to mention, what AUDACITY! given that their candidate didn't even WIN damn it! Instead of "may the best man win" the theme should have been "the best thief will win". I would give anything to know who sent this just so I could engage them in a battle of the truths - though why, I do not know, since these people wouldn't know the truth if it bit them on the a** if it says something negative about GWB.

Anyone else receive anything like this?!?!?!?

That would be creepy if they were tracking you personally.

If it was generic, well, people are morans. Don't let it get to you.

Either way, the person who sent it has issues.

34. Fund-Race! That's it!
I couldn't remember exactly what was in that corner but that was exactly what it was. How did you find this? And does this mean that someone I know sent this? Now I feel sick to my stomach. I think I would rather the Repubs be targeting all Dem contributors rather than think that someone I KNOW would go in and search to find who I supported and for how much, and then to send something so inflammatory.

I wonder sometimes if we will ever be able to really build bridges back to the other side. I have dear friends and family members that are firmly on Conservative turf - and we have all resolved not to discuss politics because it gets too personal and damaging to our relationships. I am finding this painful now. I liked it better when I was just mad.

Posters, please let me know if any of you get one of these. Then I will go back to just being angry.

36. Interesting ... they say I gave $250 to the DNC
but it's not accurate, I gave more like $1200 if I
add up all the separate contributions I made.

I wonder where they're getting the numbers from?

How sick do you have to be to send out a letter of
that sort?

If it could possibly be traced to a specific source,
I would be highly inclined to do so, and make the
names of those who are doing it public.

Maybe someone can start up a website to collect reports
of this sort?

43. They didn't have all of mine correct either
but it was too close for comfort. I don't know how I feel about that being public info but I guess it has to be. The only ones who have anonymity are the ones who give under a corporate name or something? (though that doesn't sound quite legal so I am probably wrong about that)

51. OK, so it sounds like they probably did get your info
from this site, then, if your contributions weren't
quite right.

On the anonymity question, I think individual contributions
to parties can be anonymous up to some cutoff point (although
I might be wrong about that, I'm not a lawyer). I'll try to
check it out.

I'm guessing that the cutoff is near $250 as a lump sum,
since I see a lot of my neighbours listed there with $250
contributions ... and I didn't know it. We seem to be
a bit more blue here than I thought :)

Corporate contributions definitely have to be declared,
I think.

If I were you, I'ld definitely see if the PO can help
on the source of the mailing. These are first class jerks.

65. Sorry to hear about the crimson tide you have to put up with.
Here is a link to the FEC site, where you can also look up your contribution.

This one agrees with the fundrace.com information on me.

This is a PDF of the federal campaign finance law, from the same site.

The relevant section for keeping records of individual
contributions seems to be 2 USC 432 (c) (1-3), which you can
find on page 28. It seems to say that records of names
and addresses of contributors have to be kept for
contributions above $50, and identifications and dates
for contributions above $250.

So I'm still a bit confused as to where public disclosure
requirements actually set in. But it seems the DNC thinks
it sets in at $250.

Try to keep on smiling :)

Toss it in the trash, burn it in the fireplace, do what you got to do, and then go about your day working against these pricks. Getting you mad is exactly what they're hoping for. If you laugh it off and treat it as the pathetic stunt it is, then they've failed.

22. Report it to the FEC -
Turn the shits in to the FEC and let them look into whether or not the RNC or the GWB campaign paid for that! If it is a bulk mailing via a mailing meter, there is a number that is at the bottom of the postage mark. The number is assigned to the owner and the Post Office can track it back to them. Also report it to the post office for kicks and giggles.

Don't sit back and take the abuse, stir the gumbo and get things moving!

31. Yes, I am married and no,
my spouse would never do something like this as a "joke" because he knows I take all of this way too seriously as it is. He did, however, explain to me a while ago how someone "accessed" my contributions. Did you know that everything you give to any political party or candidate is posted on a WEB site, called Open Secrets? Wow. And he definitely thinks that someone in the party may be going through the list and sending these to people who contributed to Dem's. So if any of you made contributions, go to the site and see if you are posted - and I guess if you are, expect the same. At least you will be forewarned. I am less freaked out now that I know where the data came from but still!!!!

66. One last post

I am a bit freaked out again. I went out to the Open Secrets site and when the page opened it occurred to me: My husband's name is right there where mine is, if the search was done by last name, or if someone was just going down the list. Since his donations are listed separately from mine, I do not understand why if this was a mass-mailing he wouldn't have received one as well?

Then I remembered an incident from a couple of weeks ago, when I received an I-M from an unfamiliar screen name. "u there?" Normally I do not respond to I-M's or emails if I do not know the sender, but I had recently had some communication with the Green party, re: Ohio recount, and I had gotten several emails with unfamiliar addresses that were legitimate. Also my niece frequently changes her screen name and usually begins with that exact message, written like that. So I answered.

Well, it was a Repub(some of you would call freeper?) who had been lurking around the DU site, had gone out to my profile (I didn't know this was possible!), gotten my AIM info and sent me the message. They tried to engage me in "discussion" about why I thought the election was fraud. Having taken DU warnings about dialog with this type of individual seriously, I was nice but told them I didn't want to have a conversation/argument with someone I don't know about a topic I care deeply about. She (?)continued to ping me with taunts/questions/statements. I finally wished her well and said goodnight. She pointed out to me if I didn't want to have conversations with strangers I probably shouldn't have listed my AIM info in my profile. I definitely agreed, thanked her, and then I blocked her on my Buddy list because I couldn't find my way back to the profile to change it.

Sorry this is longer than it needs to be but I am tired and having a hard time with articulation tonight. The bottom line is, I am sure these events are unrelated but I can't help but wonder if I have stupidly opened myself up in some way because I have been very free with my in several different forums - all political. If so, how do I become anonymous again?

And if the mailing isn't related to any of my net activity, that means it likely comes from someone I know and I just can't believe anyone I know would do something so mean-spirited. Sure some people may find something like this jest, but I can assure you anyone who has had any political discourse with me over the last couple of years, knows I lost my sense of humor (on this topic) a long time ago.

I guess there is nothing to do but take a few of the clever suggestions posted tonight, laugh, and forget about it. Hard, but possible.

Anyway, thanks for all of the support tonight. It was nice to talk to people who relate instead of patronize or ignore for a change. Have a good night all - these late nights and early mornings and LONG days are killing me. Goodnight.

68. Breathe deeply and slowly, and get a good night's sleep :)

Well, for example, your husband's name might be listed after
yours at the site? Seeing that your last names and address
are the same, they might have just picked one of you.

So I wouldn't rule out yet that it's completely impersonal, that
they simply got your info off of the net.

You can't be sure it isn't someone you know, of
course, but I'ld think, unless you remember a very nasty
confrontation with someone, that it's unlikely many people
who met you would go to this kind of length.

And any person who would go to this kind of length is a
coward ... I mean, why not just gloat in person?

You can't become anonymous again, unfortunately.
But taking part in the political process is still
something to be proud of in this country.

Above all, don't let yourself be intimidated!

52. OMG! You have to be kidding?!
that is TERRIBLE! It is hard to believe the law enforcement wasn't more bothered than you convey. Maybe they are W supporters too?

I have wondered about that. I have met several Policemen/Firemen (or women) and they also seem to support W. WHY?! Look at what the tax cuts have done to the states, leaving the state governments nothing to do but cut programs - of which this group is usually profoundly affected! - or raise state taxes (and still cut programs). I will never understand the logic (or lack thereof) of Bush voters - period.

Did you (or the police) figure out where your threat came from? do you wonder if it had been the reverse, a Dem harassing or threatening a Rep, if they would have gotten the same response?

Unbelievable tale. I think I will take mail in poor taste over what you experienced any day.

47. SOME GOOD NEWS FROM RNC INSIDER - DEAN HEAD OF DNC
.... newsbreak just in...
friend from the RNC (not many of those but I have to catch up on THEIR gossip), they had 3 really good things in last nationwide phone call to RNC insiders ( trust this info. as you see fit, consider the vile source)....
1. Howard Dean is ALREADY Head of DNC WEEEEE, This makes me very happy.
2. Condi Rice will be their Pres. candidate if Hillary runs for Pres. (McCain not putting his hat in ring, and they're not sure if Guiliani has play outside NY)
3. Washington GOV goes to Democrat Christine Gregoire (D) WOOHOOO more good news..

So basically in one day I find out
a. I have my democratic party back by a stong leader , Dean
b. Condi does not have play outside washington and will guarantee a 2008 democratic victory regardless of who wins
c. The system works when you fund it and start causing unrest around elections ballot counting and fighting back!

.. just wanted to send out some good news... my friend is neighbors with Dino Rossi (R) of WA and that's his source for how it's playing out... expecting riots in streets etc...

55. thanks for the info
but my experience is sometimes even the political insiders get it wrong (talked to many who were CERTAIN Dean would be the Dem cand, just as one example). Anyway, the point here is, 2008 is far, far away and whether today they say Hillary will run (not sure how I feel about that) or Condi will run (what happened to promoting Jeb???), this will change 1000 times between now and 2008. I am not ready to get on that merry-go-round until this one stops moving. And it looks like the vote fraud is going to go on and on and on. . .

71. Find their ISP
Then sign a complaint for violating the TOS (terms of service) for SPAM and solicitation. Unless they are using a anon remailer, then you are out of luck.

Tell the post office? If the letter wasn't personally threatening I don't think you can do anything. Didn't have a return address? Let me guess it was Bulk Rate. What a waste of a stamp. I'm so used to e-mail.

69. Remember
Yes, the letter would piss me off too, BUT:

A group of people who would:

a. Extend the length of the Viet Nam war in order to win an election.

b. Extend the length of time that US hostages would stay in Iran in order to win an election.

c. Steal the last two elections.

d. Support murderers and whack-jobs around the planet for essentially greed.

e. Do as little as possible during the 80's to fight the AIDS epidemic.

f. Rob the poor and give to the rich.

Probably should not surprise you when they show a bit of poor taste.

Thankfully, I didn't get one of these, because I never had any money to donate. I DID get my George W. Bush calendar the other day though. Why do I need propaganda AFTER the election? And why would I EVER want an RNC calendar? x_x

79. That is sooooooooo creepy. This has to be someone who got your donation
numbers from Fundrace.org or whatever that site is where you can type in a zip and get everyone's political donations and their address. There are two or more such sites on the internets. It would be interesting to see if this is a mass mailing. Sounds like actionable intimidation or harrassment to me. Maybe the same assholes who sent out the Dems want to ban the bible pamphlet. :grr:
