Brave folk at the Crawford Texas Iconoclast are at it again....
...these are the folk who endorsed Senator Kerry and got blasted for it. Many of us purchased subscriptions to help them survive given their loss of 'local' advertising revenue.

Well, as just noted on dKos, they're at it again. I am posting the link and a portion of the editorial (want to both honor copyright and encourage as many links to their site as possible).

http://iconoclast-texas.com/Columns/Editorial/editorial48.htm

"The spirit of freedom is essential to the American character.
Some experience it with but a mere twinkle in the eye, while others wear it like a chip on their shoulders.

Yet there are those who choose to reject the spirit of democracy for myopic greedier pastures. They would discard the creation of Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin as immaterial and no longer relevant in a world being redefined by a neo-conservative mold in which Americans act according to government policy, speak according to government propaganda, and think as the government dictates.

During the month of December, Ohio has become ground zero, where rests the survival of democracy as we know it, for this will be the test of whether America will stand for an election riddled with irregularities."

"The time is now to draw a line in the sand -- to give not one inch, one millimeter, one vote toward the cause of skewing this election. This recount, no matter the outcome, conducted properly, is a necessity for democracy to prevail. Without it, America can never trust another election."

-- Written By W. Leon Smith and Don M. Fisher

Now, that's powerful stuff and I urge all of you to send it to every one of your Congressional representatives and to every person in the media whom you can contact.

Peace.

1. i love these people!
I've been getting their paper ever since the first editorial ordeal. They are great and it appears that alot of faithful Dems are still buying ads there.

3. Excellent idea and perhaps many others will do the same..
...and, let's face it everyone, isn't it ironic that a press 'voice' in the true service of our Constitution, our Democracy is hardly to be found any where.

But, these folk are not only writing eloquently in that service, they are truly putting themselves at risk -- not just economic risk as was made very clear after they endorsed Senator Kerry.

Peace.

Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 04:21 PM by Viva_La_Revolution
When I go to the homepage (looking for the subscribe info) the ads overlay each other. looks like a really bad attempt at making a web page... can't be my display, right? No probs with other sites..

links work, and the other pages display better..

10. Your experience is what happens with their website...
....it is in much need of some help. Wish someone reading this in Dallas, or Waco or Austin could visit their shop for a few hours and tune up their site; just as a gesture of gratitude for their brave service to our Democracy.

Peace.

18. Their site looks great on my eMac - I bet that they just need
to be told that they've got to use layout tables to separate columns, to separate text and graphics otherwise the page won't look good on different platforms. I can't get there from here, but will send them an email pronto.

:-)

23. Thank you for doing this; I'm sure they will appreciate it....
....and all the support they are receiving.

Wouldn't it be special if Rep Conyers began his session on 8 Dec 2004 by reading into the record this editorial!

Peace.

15. Another awesome editorial. They've got guts, no doubt about it.
I hope neither of those editors is a reservist, past or present, under the age of 90. And I'm only just barely kidding.

Endorsing John Kerry in a small town like Crawford took guts. Writing this piece, though, including lines such as "...this theft carries the stain of treason," is beyond brave. This is a declaration of war -- a war for public support -- but a war, nonetheless.

19. Two snips
"Although the battleground in Ohio might be described as one of abstraction, lacking the smoke-filled sea of asbestos and lead that was ever present at ground zero in New York, its pungency is just as caustic because this battle will determine whether democracy will gasp its last or reign as an icon of truth."

I can imagine how much crap they're going to get from the anti-American set.

They can be proud. No matter how much hate mail they get, history will record the brave ones who spoke up.
