Is International Goodwill for the American People Officially Dead???
Prior to this election, the general consensus around the world was that Bush was an ass, but the American people didn't deserve the same ire since Bush was illegitimately installed as President.

Now that 51% of the voters seemingly wanted to give Bush another term, will the international community start thinking "These people are morons, they deserve whatever they get" about the American people?

2. ironically, I hope so
We obviously can not be entrusted with preserving our own democracy. Perhaps we need international pressure to help.

By 2008, America = Haiti

6. Yeah, like they're going to listen to us now.
I just hope that a few countries, particularly in Europe, have the decency to accept Americans as political asylum seekers.

and even I'm feeling like this. I know I shouldn't, and I'll probably "get over it" after a while, but at this moment I'm just devestated. This is the worst news the world as a whole has recieved since Hitler was appointed.

That said I still haven't given up HOPE

Hitler WAS legitimately elected.

The first time. He didn't allow for a chance to get rid of him.

14. My 66 yr old Mom just told be she is taking the
American flag off of her car because she is ashamed to be an American today. She cannot believe that so many in this country would vote for bush. This coming from the wife of a vet, (Dad served in the Navy 25 years), and the grandmother of two currently serving in the Navy, (one just back from Iraq and already told he will be going back).

We have always been a very patriotic family, and to hear my Mom say that breaks my heart. I do agree with her though. What has happened to our America?

"These people are morons, they deserve whatever they get" is exactly what I've been thinking since i woke up this morning.
I guess I'll get over it but I'm depressed right now...

And i know it's tougher for you than for us here (in old Europe) so remember you're not alone. I wish you the best for the years to come...

If Germany or France were saddled with our fucking fundie red states you'd have the same situation.

I just wish the Northeast and the West Coast could secede from the rest of the retard states.

18. this is why I'm glad our politicians clearly separated church and state
in 1905 (in my country). Today we can see that this is a very dangerous mix indeed.

I hope that some day you'll be able to do that too.

Keep the "faith".

20. Yes, goodwill is now dead
I think the rest of the world (including me) has now officially had it with Americans. The line has been drawn, as it's now clear that majority of Americans -- however slight -- support Bush and his policies. We also know that there are many good and decent people in the US, but we now know that you aren't the majority.

I hate to say this at this time, when everyone is exhausted, but I think the most important thing in the next few years will be for progressive Americans, as never before, to visibly demonstrate their continued opposition to Bush, and their respect for and support of people elsewhere. The world will take some comfort and strength from this.

At the same time, however, it's now clear that people in other countries have to pressure their leaders to oppose the US more vociferously where we can, as well as building national firewalls to inhibit the impact of hateful American right-wing ideology and culture on our own communities.

(One practical suggestion: Americans from the progressive side of the divide would be wise to keep a Kerry/Edwards button handy, and display it prominently if they choose to travel abroad in the next few years. This will make you far more welcome than will otherwise be the case.)

You are now against the rest of the

My advice to all DUers is GET OUT! FLEE!
If you stay in the US you can only expect
the fate of germans in 1945.

Failing the exposure of massive voter fraud, the distinction between Bush and the American people is finished.

25. Yep. Sad, isn't it, from Leader of the Free World to not even belonging
to it.

Unfortunately, the answer is yes. It is perfectly justified because Imperial America is a bastion of Totalitarianism (albeit a gentler variety, BushPutinism is Managed Democracy, not brutally Soviet, except for the InfoPravda field of endeavor) and belongs now to the group of nations that includes Syria, China, Puntin's Russia, etc.

The Free World is so small now.

26. yes, i suspect so!
The rest of the world has had to put up with America's need for "Revenge" for the last 3 years. You have unleashed your incredible military spending on the rest of the world and gained "nothing". Your "young and poor people have been sent to kill the rest of the world's people and failed "miserably". Hey our people outnumber your young and poor people by 6 billion to 290 million. Your government thinks its fighters are that good, even with your "fantaboulous weapons"!! I don't think soooo! America can't even suppress a country that has had 12 years of world sanctions imposed on it, prior to their Marines marching in and "kicking butt". Iraqi guerillas are America's first nightmare. If you seriously think you can also take on Iranian guerillas, Syrian guerillas, even North Korean guerillas then you deserve whats coming to your young Men and Women. They won't be coming home for christmas!!!!
You average Americans, like a lot of us average Ozzies are frustratingly caught in this "Eye for an Eye" revenge "thing". It is very similiar to the Tutsi-Hutu Rwandan cycle of violence that Clinton turned a blind eye to and of course the Jewish-Palestinian saga that we all turn a blind eye to.
This American escalation of violence around the world will not be tolerated for ever. You can only kill so many people before "an eye for an eye" policy will be returned! Now to some dumb arse "Security mum" or "Nascar gun loving homophobic dad" it might be a "Beslan school" massacre on American soil but to an intelligent Northern American democrat it might be an Asian central bank withdrawl from purchasing American Treasury bonds!! The result is the same!!!Don't take Florida and Ohio lying down Democrats. There's something "not quite right" about American democracy!!

27. We are now pariahs. We will be hated.
They gave us the benefit of the doubt last time. This time, we can't plead victimhood. Even if it's the barest of margins, the fact that more than about 20 percent of this country approves of Bush is a hell of a statement. We just flipped the bird to the rest of the world.
