BBC Newsnight hints - Tony Blair to stand down in 18 months?
Edited on Fri May-06-05 07:09 PM by Anarcho-Socialist
Did any U.K. DUers see Friday's Newsnight?

At the end of the programme, one the BBC journalists was talking to Kirsty Wark saying that "a number 10 source who is a personal friend of Tony Blair told her that he expected 'Blair to stand-down in 18 months' time' ".

What do you make of this? Journalistic speculation, or more than a subtle hint?

-------------

If true, I wish it would be sooner so that the Labour Party can return to the centre-left and a hold a more genuine social democratic position. A withdrawl from Iraq would be nice too.

1. George and Tony = Hold each other's hands and step down together
And George...take your handlers with you.

Eighteen months...doesn't it make you want to immediately ask two questions....how many lives, limbs, organs, immune systems, ruined families, monetary disasters and debt will we experience? How many dollars and pounds from the citizens will be spent?

2. Labour can't wait eighteen months for Blair to step down
Read Robin Cook's piece in the Guardian (posted in Editorials).

The European referendum is coming up later this year and Labour will have to face local elections in May. It will be a lot easier if Blair steps aside within the next few weeks and does not distract from these issues.
