How are things in the UK now, post-riots ?
I have to admit, I have not kept up on UK news but I've visited twice and loved it. I wish the UK many good things.

1. Haven't been round any of the affected areas since the riots
It's been same as usual if I'm honest.

In terms of politics the big issue at the moment is the government's attempts to destroy the NHS. I'm also a lot of publicity in the national press for the plannned eviction of the travellers at Crays Hill.

2. I hope the British people can fight off the NHS dismantling.
We need something like the NHS here in the USA.

3. Serious as they were, the riots affected only a small part of the UK.
My own region, the North-East of England, was untouched.

Thanks for asking, though.

The underlying causes have not been addressed and the current coalition government is even more clueless at fixing the UKs economic problems than its Labour predecessor. Apparently Camerons latest wheeze for screwing over the unemployed is to make them sign on twice as often as in the past thus meaning that many of the poor sods have to fritter away more of their miserable £65 JSA travelling to the job centre to complete this pointless exercise. It would be laughable if it was not so sad. From the Guardian statistics extracted from the courts most of the rioters were unemployed young adults so one suspects that the best cure for the problem would be to increase the supply of jobs that pay a living wage. Unfortunately Dave and his mates have not got a f*cking clue how to achieve that goal. Even some in the Tory press realise that fact

5. Thanks for posting that, Feds.
It's good to be reminded that not all of the right are for giving the bankers, businessmen and politicians a free ride.

6. Thanks hugely
My area wasn't affected; but according to friends from areas of London that were, things are now pretty much back to normal.

However, we are still suffering from our stupid government and its wretched cuts (including among much else, cuts n frontline policing, which is the immediate reason the riots got so out of control) and the government are now trying to pass the 'let's lay the ground for selling off the NHS to the highest bidders' bill, which is fortunately arousing a lot of opposition.
