Councils told to drop personal questionnaires
The government is telling councils to stop asking questions about people's sexuality, race and health in surveys.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles is issuing guidelines for councils about asking for personal information.

These remove the requirement for local authorities to conduct "intrusive lifestyle and diversity" surveys.

The move follows a series of high-profile cases where councils demanded personal information from individuals who signed up for services.

1. For the first time in history....
....Eric Pickles appears to have done something I actually agree with. I just don't see the relevence of my race or my sexuality when I apply for a job, and I don't see the need for such information to be provided in the 1st place really.

2. So goodbye to ethnic monitoring, then?
Well, that should keep the xenophobes and homophobes happy.

3. I've always felt...
...that "ethnic monitoring" is exactly the sort of thing that can be abused by xenophobes and homophobes.
