Gitmo firm to run UK detention centre
found this in GD http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1837137

The GEO Group, a company that manages part of Guantanamo Bay prison camp and private jails in the US, has been chosen to run the Dungavel immigration removal centre for five years.

In the United States, the firm has been facing rising accusations of sexual assault, human rights abuses, and negligence.

It is reported that the guards at South Texas Detention Complex have been forcing women prisoners to have sex with them or will be deported.

In 2007, Texas decided to cancel a £6million deal with GEO and closed the Coke County Juvenile Justice Centre following sexual abuse claims.

I don't agree with privatization of any of our prison or detention facilities.

1. Disgusting! - but one caution

This is from Iran's state media, which may or more often may not be reliable.

I have also found reference to this in the Daily Record, which makes it more likely:

but that is a tabloid, and I have not been able to find references in the Scottish Herald, any other broadsheet, the BBC, or perhaps more importantly, the Refugee Council website.

I suspect it's true, but would need more evidence.

Certainly, it is true, and disgusting, that detention and removal centres for asylum seekers are being increasingly run by private firms, some of which seem pretty dodgy:

Ugh!
