1. You're using the words "British" and "share feelings" in the same sentence
come on now, who do you think we are? :-)

2. (Slaps little wrists) Sorry, Mu. Are there any British Catholics ...
.. who would wish to express a viewpoint on the History, Philosophy and/or Possible Future Policies of the new Pontiff, with a view to general debate?

3. Are there any British Catholics on DU?

Plenty of US-based Catholics yes, but I'm not sure that anyone down here is Catholic.

Speaking of religion, anyone see the Muslim Council of Great Britain press conference being disrupted on the news? If I knew the theology behind the protests I might have a view on that but as it is I don't know anything about Islamic theology so I won't.

4. I wonder
Perhaps "Celtic" will have to play better football if they
want to beat "Rangers", or will this pope give them godspeed. :-)

If the Pope can win a football game, perhaps more people will go
to church. Such is the level of interest at the local pub.

5. Respect meeting disrupted too
A group of suspected Islamists have attacked a meeting of George Galloway's Respect party in Bethnal Green and Bow.

Police said there were reports 20-30 Asian men had disrupted the meeting and there had then been a fracas outside.

Respect said the men had threatened Mr Galloway's life and talked of a fatwa. After the meeting a man was knocked to the ground and police arrested three.

I feel compelled to comment.

My granddad didn't spend 4 years in a Nazi POW camp so we could have a bloody Kraut Pope. In my day Curlywurlies were a foot long and a man knew here he stood with a ruck after the football, fifteen pints and an Italian Pope.

Now it's all bloody iPods, footballers roasting girl guides and German Popes.

the biggest issue people in Britain have is not that Papa Ratzi is a conservative but that he is a German.

11. Bloody Colonials! Coming over here, eating our women
... sleeping with our Curlywhirlies!

I hope all your cardinals turn into Krauts and kick down your Sistine Chapel!

(Great! This is just the kind of theological discourse I was hoping for!)
