... that once Cameron has decided who's going to run London, we probably won't see too much of him. At least not till after the 2010 election...

1. I suppose at least it might be a good thing for the people of Henley..
Though they haven't had such a good track record in picking their MPs so far.

2. The only silver lining for Labour (if it can be called that)
is that there is a good chance that Boris will be such a disaster that he will force voters away from the Tories in droves.

The trouble here is the consequences for the people of London. I certainly don't think he'll be much use managing the Olympics or Crossrail for instance and given his track record, there is always the chance of him getting caught with his pants down or his foot in his mouth far worse then anything Livingstone could muster.

3. Boris won't be allowed to be a disaster.
City Hall will be filling up with suits, minders and scriptwriters from Tory Central Office as we speak. Boris will be wheeled out on ceremonial occasions to give tightly-scripted speeches with strict instructions that any repetition, hesitation or deviation will mean no cabinet post for him in four years time.

Meanwhile London's real new leadership will embark on a programme of privatisation, transfer of whatever can be transferred to the Third (ie unpaid) Sector and cutting of Inner City services to ensure financial rewards for the well-heeled outer boroughs. This will then be touted by the Cameroons as a template for a Tory government.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party will scratch its collective balls and wonder why it didn't think of that first.

So it goes.

4. Don't forget
scrapping the congestion charge and dumping efforts to curtail the Sloane tractors. One reason the suburbs and richurbs hated Ken so much was because he threatened to separate them from their motors.
