Canada urged to go after `scumbags'
OTTAWA—Canada must take its fight against "detestable murderers and scumbags" to the failed states abroad where they are allowed to "spread their venom," the country's top general said yesterday.

Comparing the situation to that of the fight against Nazi Germany, a tough-talking Gen. Rick Hillier says the attacks against the London transit system just over a week ago underscore the need for Canada's military to take an active role in places like Afghanistan.

"Did they say `No, because we might be attacked over here if we actually go and stand up against those despicable murderous bastards'?" Hillier said.

"They detest our freedoms, they detest our society, they detest our liberties," he said.

Shit. I'm sure I've heard something like this before?

West in denial about terror attacks

Maybe everyone is mad. Or only those in power?

1. He should
apologize or resign.

Now he's making policy, and that's a no-no.

Not only that he has a profound misunderstanding of the situation, and shouldn't be CDS

2. I thought he was disgusting in both his tone and content
I totally disagree with the change of 'mission' being carried out. We will now be serving directly under US command and that is unacceptable, imo.

We are currently there under NATO and should stay there under the same mission, that of ensuring safety, etc.

Rhetoric like his does nothing to help and everything to raise the stakes on our soldiers over there, imo.

3. Meh - it's war
I disagree with the change of mission. But I mean come on, we can shoot at people but we can't call them names?

4. Calling people names does nothing of substance
especially in war situations, imo. This guy is a loose canon, imo, and very different from those who have held the position before him. He is going to work VERY hard at trying to mold our forces to be more in line with those of the US, I have little doubt.

5. I Guess
That it is war.

I presume that you read the article by Gwynne Dyre.

Here is another bit.

It looks to me like we are going down the wrong path with negative feedback.

6. It isn't war
You can't fight a war against something you can't see...something with no country, no battlefield, no uniformed soldiers, no tanks, no jets....

Like trying to nail jello to a tree.

This is just flailing around aimlessly, and asking for trouble

Big macho words...with no understanding.

This idiot thinks there are X number of 'terrorists'....and that you can pick them off one by one...and that you'll eventually 'shoot them all'....and of course 'over there'.

But for everyone killed...ten new ones are created.

And 'recruits' are available everywhere. All over the globe.

There is no 'over there' anymore.

Time to put the guns away, and use our brains instead.
