These darned Canadian threads show up on the Latest page, and the neighbours wander in and don't notice they've crossed a border and get all confused. Happens all the time.

Up there at the top. "Country: Canada". Click, and one will see several mentions of Belinda Stronach (whose name was right there in the header) ... even spelled right. ;)

2. Belinda S. is a famous daughter of a rich car part magnate who

ran for the leadership of the 'new' conservative party. She tried to take them to the centre and be into nationalism (rather than divide and conquer the spoils). She lost. Has been a star for them since. Went to the national forum in Montreal this past winter(where they have no support) and tried to get them not to go anti-same sex marriage.

Neocons influence that party greatly. They didn't like her. Then her conservative leader Harper tried to bring the government down based on an investigation going on into kickbacks in the last Liberal Government. The investigation is not complete. The conservative leader, having no chance at winning a seat in Quebec, made a deal with the separatist party in Quebec to bring the government down.

She was not into that sort of deal. Encouraging Quebec nationalists if it is good for you. She left. She now is with the Liberals. The conservatives now have said they will not bring the government down. They played dirty and played emotional cards to try and cause an election on a budget bill they had previously supported but decided not to when it looked like Liberals were tanking in the polls because of reaction to allegations made during the public inquiry into the scandal. Almost everyone liked that budget. All across the country.

The Tories were using the trouble with the sponsorship scandal (a federal fund to give monies to all sorts of 'pro-Canada' festivals and events created after the last referendum on Quebec was almost won by separatists) to their political advantage even though they have not bothered with getting their own politicians and relationships built up in Quebec. They put everything, every other real consideration in the country, behind their own chances to win an election. They went real negative.

They did this because they cannot win on the issues. They hide their desire to privatize medicare and undo national governance. They can't win an election on the domestic issues. This was their chance to win a minority government on 'some other issue' by using separatists to help them. That would be bad for the country.

She bailed. They wail and call her names. And now they are in no situation to win an election because she called them what they were. Even other conservative members from Atlantic Canada were thinking they could not help Harper destroy the budget. Because it was a good budget. She is representing a riding in central Canada. Why would she go against those needs to support a creep.

Now they sell her blackberry. What a bunch of babies.

Funny thing is that the original budget ...the one they supported to begin with..has been changed as the Liberal government tried to cut deals with parties to support them. And now, business tax cuts for corporations got taken out of the budget. So the one thing they wanted in the budget is gone. Cause of their hubris and arrogance. And it seems that to hide the embarrassment of not now having the numbers to take down the government (and causing an election where they have already showed they were willing to put stability of the country on the line)..they will vote for it.

The poll numbers also showed there is a ceiling on their support. No matter how bad it got a few weeks ago, when the Liberals were in trouble about kickbacks and scary mafia bag men in past governance, the conservatives had not invested long enough and hard enough in enough parts of the country to be anything but part of a divided opposition. And changing the numbers according to what the polls said, and causing an election that would give them those votes & seats in the House of Commons, would have meant the Liberal government would have had to for a coalition with the NDP - a more socialist party. So the government they faced would be a more socialist one than they face today.

A big mess for the Tories. I hope they have learnt their lesson. And now their anger and vitriol is spewing all over the place.

Belinda Stronach had a Blackberry -- I don't really know what they do, but apparently they have personal-type info in them: their "content".

Somebody else got hold of the Blackberry, or at least of what's in it.

That somebody is auctioning off what s/he has: the content of the Blackberry.
