Globe and Mail: Tories among hundreds census supporters who emailed Harper
Newly obtained emails show the Prime Minister got a digital earful from baffled and angry Canadians opposed to his government's plan to scrap the mandatory long-form census – including messages sent by several Conservative supporters prepared to switch votes over the move.

“While I have been a supporter of your party since its inception, it is becoming harder and harder to defend that decision,” says one email to Stephen Harper.

“Your actions in regard to the census have cost you my vote,” wrote another.

One Conservative backer delivered an ultimatum: reverse the decision or “You will have lost a faithful supporter of your party and policies.”

1. Just Another

Case of "I am the boss".

When Clement became a conservative bright light, then Harper threw him under the bus with the long form census.

When Flaherty became the good guy then Harper sent him out with propaganda at the Club.

If anyone gets too much of the lime light then Harper throws them out with propaganda. They then have to move that point or be bounced.

4. The power has gone to Harper's brain.
I wish more people would wake up to what Harper really is ..... a man without conscience or compassion who is willing to do pretty much anything to stay in power. Can't wait until he's booted off the bus.

2. The supposed concern for privacy is laughable
The concern for privacy is laughable. This week I was scanned at the airport, by one of the new de-cloaking devices. If Harper is serious about personal privacy, he could prove it by reversing the Orwellian trend in security measures. The pretended privacy concern over the census is a joke.

3. And if you were headed to or over the USA...
...personal data belonging to you would have been sent to the US government.

7. It was strictly an in-Canada flight
They (probably) didn't connect the scanned image with my ID.

But who really knows, anymore.

10. From what I understand...
...flying OVER the USA is all it takes. Vancouver to Toronto, for example.

5. The continuing fallout from the census debacle keeps making me smile...
How did the Tories miscalculate this one so badly?

6. I believe it's another of Harper's refusals to back down from ANYTHING!
The man is a complete dictator. When he decides something....that's IT! How dare anyone tell him he is wrong or possibly made a mistake. When is the Canadian public going to wake up and realize he is trying to establish a dictatorship.

8. I think they have to throw the odd bone to their Reform Party core
This probably seemed harmless at first. Now they figure backing down will look weak.

9. Yep, brings a grin to my face as well...
They completely miscalculated and underestimated Canadians yet again, assuming virtually no one was 1) paying attention in the middle of summer and 2)Canadians don't understand the value of the census INCLUDING the mandatory long form census. Wrong on both counts and they are paying a price for it. I love it!
