Tories declare respect for Mulroney after party feud
OTTAWA — The Conservatives on Wednesday attempted to smooth a rift within their ranks over former prime minister Brian Mulroney that emerged after a senior minister in the Stephen Harper government suggested Mulroney was no longer a member of the party.

The Conservatives emerged from a caucus meeting, the first attended by Harper since the feud began, to declare their respect and admiration for Mulroney.

"I have great respect for former prime minister Mulroney. I'm a big fan of free trade, and NAFTA was a tremendous accomplishment for our country and the people of Canada," Finance Minister Jim Flaherty told reporters.

The Prime Minister's Office declined to comment Wednesday.

LOL poor Stevie can't win for losing. He has to suck up to Mulroney and his minions because he cannot afford a split with his poll numbers dropping rapidly. This new-found love for Mulroney will not be well received by some of his base.

Conservative party was not "conservative" enough. There may be a lid on with regard to speaking out right now but I have no doubt there is a faction of the party who are very angry, behind closed doors, against Harper for caving in to Mulroney.
