I think Canada should capitalize on the US election
Make it super easy for Americans fleeing Bush to come here. Then we'll get a reverse on the Brain Drain and Skilled Labour and stuff.

1. Please petition your government to ease up on entry requirements
People with certain diseases cannot get in because they would be too much of a strain on the national health system, so immigration is not an option for all. I read two posts here, one by a person with HIV, one disabled, who cannot immigrate. :(

And there is a treaty that Canada signed recntly that describes the US as a "safe third country" so Canada does not take refugees from the US. Help us!

6. No but the draft is not all that is feared
Gays have every reason to believe physical harm may come to them. Women who have abortions are under severe jeopardy now, a Senator just elected suggests capital punishment for any doctor who performs an abortion. Things are bound to get scary.

3. I wish they would too.....
I'd have to have a lot more savings than I do now, because I'd have to go through a major process to get licensed in my profession and would have to find alternate employment until I could take the exam and work through the red tape.... Although I have credentials in an alternate (research-related) field, so that might help, too.

There was some mention made that it was illegal to move your belongings to Canada before gaining an immigration permit, or whatever it is called... So, one would have to leave everything in storage, I guess?

At any rate, I think it would send a very incriminating message to Congress, although I imagine all but the most moderate of Repugs would not care.

4. Unhappy US Democrats Welcome in Canada, PM Jokes
Unhappy U.S. Democrats welcome in Canada, Martin jokes

OTTAWA (CP) - Americans can't quite qualify for refugee status but they're more than welcome to move here if they're unhappy about the U.S. election result, Prime Minister Paul Martin joked Thursday.

He was responding to reports from south of the border that some Americans want to move north rather than put up with more George W. Bush.

7. I would go to your wonderful country
I'm just about over an hour away from the Ontario / Quebec border here in upstate New York... which is one of the bluest area of New York, BTW.

I am kinda hoping for annexation by Canada, do you think it might happen?

I am a very skilled IT person.

8. I hope that we do allow those with draft age children to ....
find a home here as well as others. There is no doubt in my mind there is a draft in the works and it won't be long! We took in those who left during the Vietnam war, we should do the same again now, imo.
