Ten Point Lead for Conservatives in Canada
The governing Conservative party holds a high level of public support in Canada, according to a poll by Ekos Research Associates published in the Toronto Star. 39 per cent of respondents would vote for the Tories in the next election to the House of Commons.

The Liberal party is second with 29 per cent, followed by the New Democratic Party (NDP) with 17 per cent, the Bloc Québécois with eight per cent, and the Green party with seven per cent.

Canadians renewed the House of Commons in January. The Conservative party—led by Stephen Harper—received 36.3 per cent of the vote, and secured 124 seats in the 308-member lower house. Since February, Harper leads a minority administration after more than 12 years of government by the Liberal party.

On Sept. 19, Harper stood by his decision to scrap the federal long gun registry, saying, "What this last government did is that instead of worrying about insane people or criminals, they simply went after farmers."

1. Another poll showing little change, once margin of error is considered

Polls where the Conservatives drop 2 points are buried, while polls where they gain two points are trumpeted. It is all MOE.

On edit - I love how 39% is considered a "high level of public support".

2. 39% is fairly high
considering there are 5 parties splitting the 100%.

I suspect it's slightly overstated.

3. Well, it is 11 percentage points under one-half
So it hardly rates as "a high level of public support" in my book. Merely a plurality.

And I agree, it is probably overstated (thus my comments about margin of error).

4. Pretty convenient "surge"

Gee, I heard their support dipped. :)
