Angus Reid: Canadians Uncertain About Harper Government
September 6, 2006

Many adults in Canada have not developed clear views on their current federal administration, according to a poll by SES Research. 28 per cent of respondents say they are not sure if they like something about the Stephen Harper-led Conservative government.

In addition, 22 per cent of respondents say they like nothing, 12 per cent think Harper keeps his promises, nine per cent say he gets the job done, and six per cent express preference for his policies.

Canadians renewed the House of Commons in January. The Conservative party—led by Stephen Harper—received 36.3 per cent of the vote, and secured 124 seats in the 308-member lower house. Since February, Harper leads a minority administration after more than 12 years of government by the Liberal party.

When asked what they dislike about the Harper administration, 32 per cent of respondents are undecided, 15 per cent cite nothing, and 11 per cent complain about its closeness to the United States. Seven per cent of respondents are disappointed with his military protocols and other policies.
