Softwood deal widely panned
A Canada-U.S. pact to end the contentious softwood lumber dispute - or at least enforce a truce for a couple of years -will be pushed through over the objections of some lumber producers.

Kullar says Prime Minister Stephen Harper has betrayed Canadian producers, and he believes the B.C. government's about face, to support the deal, was made so as not to jeopardize Ottawa's Gateway and Olympic funding.

Harder said Canadian companies can not afford to continue the legal battle, without Ottawa's support.

Kullar says large B.C. forest companies may support the deal, because they see that smaller companies will fail.

Each level of government will contribute $55 million, bringing taxpayers' expenditure on venue construction to $580 million.
