[Are Canadian soldiers] Dying in vain?
Muslim activist questions role of Canadians fighting in Afghanistan

TORONTO — Canada cannot "conquer" Afghanistan and Canadian soldiers stationed there are dying in vain, says a Muslim activist who served as an RCMP and CSIS informant inside an alleged Toronto terror plot.

Mubin Shaikh was both hailed as a patriot and derided as a betrayer of Islam when he admitted to his role in helping police arrest 17 men and youths on terror-related charges in early June.

The federal Conservative government "is endangering the lives of Canadian soldiers to meet objectives that cannot be attained," Shaikh said in an interview.

"You know the last one who conquered Afghanistan? Alexander the Great — 300 BC. All right. You think you can do it? OK, well, get ready."

1. Canada's mission is to conquer Afghanistan?
Whatever! Canada is simply part of a NATO mission to assist the Afghan gov't and military in surpressing the Taliban insurgency. The Afghan military is doing most of the fighting and they're suffering the highest casualties.

Wow. You really have bought into the whole Bush-Harper package.

So what exactly brings you here?

5. No, I bought into the Chretien-Martin package.
Canada has little interest in Afghanistan other than humanitarian and maybe limiting their heroin exports.

What brings me here is an interest in American politics. I'm no fan of Bush, but I'm not a raving leftist looney either. You might find the majority of people fall into that area of the political spectrum.

2. I thought this guy's fifteen minutes
were up?

Other than being an informant, what other expertise does he have to warrant his comments being published by the MSM?

His point is well taken...but where only interested in securing the puppet government in Kabul, sing some legal documents and make sure the pipeline gateway is secured -- we don't care what happens in the rest of Afghanistan anymore than we care about what happens in any other country we extract resources...any pocket money we give our clients will be redeemed in weapons so they can kill each other off.

Our armies are martyrs to the timeless flow of capital.

4. "...derided as a betrayer of Islam"...

There's a mouthful. So...to narc out some fellow muslims and prevent the deaths of scores of innocents, he has 'betrayed' Islam?

Very interesting. One could make some very controversial conclusions from that statement.
