Global issues trump Canadian politicians

All politics is local. It is more so now than ever before, especially in North America, particularly Toronto.

Lebanon. Israel. The Israeli Occupied Territories. Iraq. Iran. Afghanistan. Sri Lanka. And, of course, terrorism, some of it incubated in the West — the London plot being only the latest.

All these affect us. Ask Stephen Harper. Ask the Liberal leadership candidates. Ask U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman.

Even as we prosecute them, and remain alert for other terrorists, we must know that more wars, bombings, civilian deaths and oppression in Muslim lands can only bring more disasters, not less. This is what friends and supporters should be conveying to Israel and the U.S., not just joining them in a dance of tribal solidarity.
