Judge orders talks halted in Caledonia dispute
An Ontario Superior Court judge ruled Tuesday that all negotiations must be suspended until aboriginal protesters move off the Caledonia, Ont. housing development site.

Justice David Marshall said that talks between the province and aboriginal protesters must come to an end until the rule of law returns and police are able to enforce order on the property.

"It is common knowledge that the people of Caledonia, after five months of occupation, have seen security in their town replaced by lawlessness, protesters in battle fatigues, police officers in riot gear,'' said Marshall.

What was once a positive relationship between aboriginal and non-aboriginal residents have been "destroyed after many years of peaceful coexistence,'' he added.

He issued his order after holding hearings to discover why his earlier orders to remove aboriginal protesters have been, as he put it, "blatantly disregarded."

"The court has been patient, but the court cannot turn a blind eye to blatant contempt of the court's lawful order,'' he said.

1. I posted this because it's so unusual but
I should have written more about it.

I have never seen a case in which a judge orders people to STOP negotiating. I understand entirely why he is peeved that his court previous court order has not been obeyed, and I can understand him ordering that the police carry out that order, but - wow - to order the suspension of discussions between several of the parties seems a bit out of the court's jurisdiction.

I suspect that it will only flame the fire. Hopefully only figuratively and not literally.

2. Try living here. We are under occupation. We have been thru

several terrorist acts already. The land values will be chopped by 50% - 75%. Enough is enough.

Finally someone with some common sense. The natives were ordered to leave the land months ago. They ignore the order and claim that they are above the law - our laws and rules do not apply to them. Think about it for a minute...If the natives will ignore this order why bother with 'negotiations' at all? If the deal isn't completely 100% in favour of the natives they'll just ignore it and declare that the resolution 'doesn't apply to them'. You cannot 'negotiate' with a party that will just ignore any unfavourable ruling - we've seen it already.

Go here for an update...

The citizens in and around Caledonia are under attack. We need help. We need the army and police to do their job. We need a government, be it the provincial libs or the federal tories, to step in and LEAD. Not hide behind their desks and toss this hot potatoe around until eventually we have a fatality(s) to deal with.
We've had enough of the terrorizing by a small minority with special rights. Mark my words, if this isn't resolved shortly there will be bloodshed.
