Weekend demonstration planned against war in Lebanon as Tory support drops
MONTREAL (CP) - Opposition political parties insist they aren't seeking political gain by joining a coalition that has invited Montrealers to hit the streets Sunday in a massive demonstration against the war in Lebanon.

Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe said he's not trying to solidify the party's support as polls suggest Tory support is waning in a province the government had hoped would deliver them a majority in the next election.

"Imagine if I didn't say a word about that (the Middle East crisis). . .people would say the Bloc is not concerned about foreign affairs and war and peace," Duceppe told reporters Thursday.

Polls have suggested that Tory support is sliding over voter concern about the government's Middle Eastern policy.
