Liberals need someone with Trudeau's wit and brains!
Watching the electioneering, I'm impressed by the need for some real fire and flair....Nobody, from any party, so far as I have seen, is showing anything but predictable party partisanship....It's all pretty dull....Remember when Trudeau called Mulroney "the sorcerer's apprentice" because Mulroney said he was going to "fix" the problems in Quebec?....That was so delicious. It would have been bad enough to call him a sorcerer, but Trudeau only allowed him to be an apprentice! I loved it!....Plodding old Martin seems incapable of any wit....Maybe some humour about the Reform party neanderthals waiting in the wings with Harper would help turn the tide?????

1. While I agree that PET was the most fascinating character....
in the history of North American politics, I'd like to believe that Canadians don't need a lot of humor and flair thrown in their faces to make the right choice. Perhaps I expect too much from my neighbors to the north (whom I will be joining soon!) but when you have a con candidate who, among other things, wants to reintroduce the missile defence issue to the public discourse, the choice in this election should be clear, despite the sponsorship scandal. Yes, I know you have to hold your noses to make this choice, but we don't need more neocon politicking in North America, thank you very much!!!

2. The trouble is we have a con candidate who is a wolf hiding in sheep's
clothing....The Canadian public has been duped into thinking Harper is a moderate by the campaign he has run...Besides snakey Brian Mulroney, he has had the help of Ralph Reed. (I saw him on our religious network lecturing some conservative group on how to elect a Conservative government if they would follow the instructions he would give them.)....I really believe that if the public knew the truth about Harper, (Liberal ads have tried to unmask him, but the Cons just say it's lies), they would not vote for him....The Conservatives have been able to use the "sponsorship scandal" to plant doubt in people's minds about the truth of anything Liberals say....Harper's campaign is so controlled that nothing gets said or done without Harper's approval....Watching things unfold is so reminiscent of Bush's campaign....

3. Beyond that...

"Watching things unfold is so reminiscent of Bush's campaign...."...and expect it to continue.

The Tories will go Year Zero and make major changes quietly to take care of the corporate wishlists they have (esp. foreign ownership rules in media and finance, bank mergers, de-regs across the board).

The Tories will go about rapidly dismantling the federal beaucracy to eliminate liberal influence in the admin. levels government and whack the always NDP-backed government unions.(that ties up a lot of grassroots right there)

That will be expected and they might get a good fight...

BUT the magic of the Bush formula is make those changes but hit emotive issues to distract the public. Basically have their party livestock hammer 'culture wars' and parade the military around to support this or that US directive.

Even something at first glance like tax breaks for bus passes is BAD, as it will merely give the various transit authorities the excuse to crank up fares thinking that the 'poorest' customers are being protected by a worthless tax credit. They're fuckin' dangerous assholes with a big grudge--no doubt

4. If Harper gets a majority he will change things so fast our heads will
spin, and by the time they're voted out of office it will be all but impossible to reverse the damage....That is my fear....A minority would keep him in line, so I'm praying that if he wins it is only a minority....Remember Mulroney?....

pisses me off. :( I'm not getting any extra money. :(

6. Anne McLellan
It's time for her to step up to the plate. However "Landslide" Annie has a tough row to hoe. If she does get back in, I'm hoping for a leadership review and she wins.
