Lasee whining in the P-G...

Personal attack replaces dialogue

BELLEVUE — The big-government left is pulling out the stops, trying to derail the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, my constitutional amendment that will give the voters the right to decide on tax increases and spending increases above a limit.

The April 15 Associated Press story regarding TABOR claimed it will “severely” limit government spending.

Hardly. With TABOR, Brown County’s spending would have been “limited” to nearly 6 percent growth a year over the last four years; Green Bay’s to 5 percent growth per year.

If these are severe limits, I’d hate to see generous ones.

An April 13 Forum letter called for my resignation because I advocate returning power to the people in order to limit the power of lobbyists and special-interest groups. The writer must never have noticed how politicians will say one thing to get elected, then do something else once in office. Gov. Doyle promised to balance the budget without raising taxes, yet his budget isn’t balanced, and he is raising taxes.

Because I encourage the voters to be distrustful of government power, the writer has decided to attack me personally. It’s too bad. I would rather discuss the issue on the merits.

Frank G. Lasee, state representative, 2nd Assembly District

1. Even my Repuke church member went to see him about TABOR
God bless Jane - she's against TABOR because of its impact on the local schools and the libraries. (I'll make a Dem out of her yet!)

Sounds like he's got his mind made up, and isn't going to budge.

2. Mr. Lassee should watch what party he choses to label "Big Government"
The problems we're experiencing in Wisconsin are a direct result of the disastrous fiscal policies HIS party has enacted in Washington. The problems are now trickling down to the states, and he thinks his little baby TABOR will solve all our problems.

Get off your ass Lassee and rap Mark Green up side the head and tell him to quit carrying water for DeLay and fix the federal mess first, then you can sell your bullshit around here at the local level.

Until then, piss off. TABOR should die.

3. They're also a direct result from the previous repuke governor.
Do they really believe that things were better off with ol' what's-his-name? What about all that tobacco settlement money? Fiscally responsible, my ass. :puke:

4. Indeed, Tommy and his Lt Gov Scott McCallum who made a mess
in the short time he drove the boat when TT became the head of Flu Shot Shortages for the Shrub administration.

TABOR is smoke an mirrors. It would have been DOA long ago if it wasn't for the baboons on Milwaukee talk radio yapping about it looking for a clever bumper sticker slogan.

Here's my idea:

T.A.B.O.R
Taxes Again Benefit Only Republicans

5. Milw J/S confirms position that TABOR is not needed

Madison - State tax and fee collections rose 1.4% over the past five years, ranking Wisconsin fifth-lowest in tax growth among the states, new figures show.

The slow growth stems from income tax cuts in 2000 and 2001. Since a sharp falloff in revenue between 2000 and 2001, tax and fee collections have steadily risen - but the increases have not been as high as in most other states, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report and state Department of Revenue figures.

<snip...>

But Sen. Mike Ellis (R-Neenah), who at times has spoken against the taxpayers bill of rights, said the census figures would have little effect on the debate over tax limits.
---

What prevents these thick skulls from being penetrated?

Part of it is this little tidbit in the article quoting Assembly Speaker John Gard (R-Peshtigo):

"We made progress on the income tax cuts, but we've got a long way to go, and I'm one to believe the taxpayers bill of rights is the way to go," he said.
---

In other words, "damn the facts, this is our campaign mantra regardless of the data to the contrary".

Idiots.
