3. Interesting tale about Ed
In the late 90's his tombstone was stolen and wound up in Seattle. Some band stole it on their way through town and the guy who held it was selling rubbings from it on the web.

Police got wind of it and confiscated the stone. Police in Seattle kept in the evidence room waiting for Wisconsin to send for it. Eventually, a couple of Seattle coffee shop workers convinced the police to let them take it back to Wisconsin. Along the way the stopped at tourist traps and posed with the stone.

One day, after the trip they told their story to a regular in their coffee shop in Seattle. The old man they told heir story to was the guy (as a tech fresh out of forensics school) who originally finger-printed Gein in the 50's when he was arrested. Heard that tale direct from the retired tech.

5. Ed Gein was a little marginal.
One of the anecdotes going round was that Ed was cooking dinner when the sheriff came to arrest him. Ed said, "Ah come on sheriff sit down and have a heart."

2. In all my years living in Wisconsin...
not one instance of weirdness did I witness. Even as a child with a wild imagination.

4. So what's wrong with a law against vampires?
Are you pro-vampire?

Sure we're weird. What do you expect? It gets very cold and very hot here, and when my earliest WI ancestors arrived, they lived in a hole in the ground. (badger, badger, badger).

6. "It isn't easy being weird."
A pink button I found in my collection this weekend. I'll wear it upside down in tribute.

7. What do you expect from a state that has a mustard museum
I like all kinds of mustard, but a museum? That's just wierd.

12. I've actually wanted to go
Jean Ferraca used to have occasional shows on it and I thought it sounded interesting. I just don't get to Mt. Horeb very often and then I'm always just passing through.

11. Von Shaick's photos are great...
I went to the Historical Society in Madison and bought some prints, years ago.

Disturbing. Had to explain to my wife why I had photos of dead people and kids...

13. That has got to be the best book from Wisconsin!
Don't ask why but I get it out every so often and page through it.

How a book with a death fetish can be so intriguing is beyond me.
