Military recruiting protested

About 200 students and other protesters gathered in front of Bascom Hall this morning at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeking the ouster of military recruiters from campus.

"Apparently we've got complaints from around campus that we're being too loud," said junior Ben Ratliffe, after a police officer had a word with organizers. "I would say we've got complaints of our own."

Ratliffe said the protest was aimed at getting military recruiters and the ROTC program "out of our schools." He said the war on terror is a "euphemism for military expansion."

1. I always thought it would be good

if there were counter-recruiters, handing out leaflets telling potential recruits about not only the neo-con agenda but the facts about how shabbily the military has been treated under Bush.
