What can you tell me about Neenah?
I've been talking to a recruiter about a job up there...a BIG job. Is there anything to do up there?

How does Wisconsin rate as a liberal state?

Thanx.

2. Entertainment marketing.
The position in Neenah is a direct marketing gig, mainly of entertainment product (DVDs).

12. That's it. I used to work at BMG. That's why they're interested.
So is it a good place to work? I assume so as you seem to want back in...

14. Not too bad actually...
The Disney people take a serious interest in the company and make visits frequently with high profile company reps.

It's a very people orientated job (I worked in customer service) and pretty easy. The problem was that there wasn't full time openings when I worked there and Cadre (the temp service I worked for) kept screwing with my schedule so I quit on Cadre.

Working for AltaResources though would not be a bad gig.

3. Definitely Bush Country

Just think of SUV's as far as the eye can see....

Maybe the recruiter could find you a job in Madison instead, where there are no jobs due to Madison's undeserved reputation as being unfriendly to business.

4. What's always funny about that is...
...Dane county has the lowest unemployment rate in the whole state the last time I checked (3.2%).

5. Look down...
The main thing I know about Neenah is the existance of the Neenah Foundry -- I swear that half of the manhole covers in the United States were manufactured there.

Other than that, I have family that used to live in the area and liked it a lot. Definitely the red part of an otherwise blue state.

I want to say Pittsburgh or Philly or someplace like that had a municipal foundry. I forget where.

But I take your point, half might not be giving the Foundry enough credit!

6. I live

in Oshkosh, about 10 miles south of Neenah. Pretty conservative are, but there are pockets of us out there. The Appleton area (where Neenah is) actually has a lot to offer as far as stores, eateries, etc.

The other main downside is that Neenah is clearly Packer country.

Send me a message if you want more info.

And the main upside to this area is that it is Packer country.

17. I'll third that Appleton advice
Work in Neenah, live in Appleton. We live in Oshkosh, and we couldn't hack the drive from Appleton every day, but I'm sure we'll live to regret that choice eventually. Neenah would be closer for you. After living in Madison for eight years, we look at Appleton as a mini Madison-north. Heck, it's got two Indian buffets. What more could one want?

7. I live in Neenah's Twin City, Menasha

Neenah is literally 100 feet from my door. I love it here. Although largely consrvative there are many active progressives here.

I moved here 1.5 years ago from very liberal Minneapolis and was also a bit worried about the political climate here. One of the interesting developments has been the ease with which we've made connections with like-minded people. It probably has something to do with beng outnumbered causing us to rally together. Even if that is the reason, I don't mind because I've made tons of friends since we moved here and many of them are the result of my political views and involvement.

If you want more info on the area PM me. If you take the job, let me know and I can point you towards some good, reasonably priced houses in the area (disclaimer: I am not a real estate agent, just a friend :)).

One edit: BTW, it's not as freeperis as we amy have made it sound. Lots of moderates and the results from last fall's elections weren't overly lopsided. Something like 45% of the Winnebago county votes went for Kerry. The Neenah Republican representative to WI Assembly was recently quoted referring to his party's "drinking of kool-aid" on fiscal issues.

8. Come on over!
I am chair of the local Democratic Party, we can always use another activist.

The Fox Valley is the swing area of the swing state. We are doing alot of hard work around here. We have excited members and are hosting the Dem State Convention this Summer.

The urban areas shade Dem, the rural Repug. This makes the county Repug, but close.

We hope to change that.

So, come on over!

16. Nice city/town
It reminds me of my town in Ohio before the good paying manufactureres wither closed or layed off a significant number of people. It is pretty nice. It is also part of a larger small metropolitain area with Appleton and Oshkosh.
