What's that smell? A Minnesota forest fire
http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/129734353.html

A huge forest fire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota has sent ash and smoke to large parts of Wisconsin, including metro Milwaukee , National Weather Service officials said Tuesday.

The weather service in Green Bay said northwest winds from the fire were reducing visibility in Wisconsin.

A satellite photoshows the spread of the smoke south and eastward. The smell of smoke already has spread to the Milwaukee area.

There have been numerous reports of smoke and even some ash in the North Woods region. The weather service reported that visibility dropped to one and a half miles in Rhinelander early Tuesday.

"Although visibility restrictions were not as pronounced at other locations, the scent of smoke was clearly evident across the entire region," the weather service said.

The weather service said some residents had reported difficulty breathing.

Crazy!!

1. Remarkable...Ely is just over 500 miles from Milwaukee
I drove from Milwaukee to Jefferson this morning (about 50 miles) and it is hazy and smelly the whole way.

I can't remember any previous air quality warnings in Milwaukee due to events in northern MN. I wonder when the last time something like this happened.

4. It's even in Chicago! That is one big fire!
It's been burning for 3 weeks and the cold front brought is all to us today. John Malan just reported it'll shift tonight. It seems to be clearing (or I am more used to it) compared to lunchtime here in Waukesha County.
