Dumbass says Social Security should be easy entitlement fix
U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson told WisPolitics.com that Social Security should be the easiest of the entitlement programs to fix, saying things like means testing and raising the retirement age should be on the table as part of the solution.

“For whatever reasons, it’s the third rail and people are afraid of it,” Johnson said in an interview before speaking to the Milwaukee chapter of the Society of Plastics Engineers. Johnson stressed that no one is talking about changing benefits for those who are retired or about to retire. He said those at least 55 years old should be shielded from any changes that he says would save the program for future generations.

“Put all those things on the table,” Johnson said. “And you sit down with an actuary, ‘cause in the end it’s math, and you make these programs solvent for 75 years, both Social Security and Medicare.”

Johnson also said he was disappointed that U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan decided not to run for president because his candidacy would have created a “real mandate” on entitlement reform. “He would have brought real substance to the race; he would have actually talked about the issues we need to talk about in this nation,” Johnson said.

People don't want to hire you when you're 55, but they want to raise the retirement age past 65. How is that going to work?

1. "Entitlements". Retired Republicans I know are surprised that their party call SS this.
To them "entitlements" referred to what believed to be people on welfare. They told me how embarrassed they had been as a young family when they had to use food stamps and only went shopping late at night.

I warned them years ago that the GOP was putting the tag "entitlements" onto Social Security and they knew full well what they were doing in applying that term to SS when they did.

2. On Thom Hartman's radio program yesterday,
someone suspected of being a RepubliCON troll called in and started spewing the same line.

The response from Thom was immediate and direct:

He makes the point that once you start re-defining the rules (with something that
sounds reasonable and seems to make good economic sense), it's much, much, much
easier to abolish the program entirely.

3. He hasn't said one new thing since the campaign
and he hasn't done one damn thing. Not that I expected anything else, and not that I really want him to accomplish anything since everything he wants is crap, but how on earth can the pukes approve of this empty suit? He parrots everything that goes on around him and contributes zilch.
