For U.S. Senate: Russ Feingold

Russ Feingold is the right choice for Wisconsin, and he deserves another term.

We know, we know -- "career politician." There's no doubt that Democratic incumbent Feingold has more political experience than his Republican opponent, plastics manufacturer Ron Johnson.

But legislating, like any other job, is a skill. Feingold is a strong legislator. He holds some strong liberal views on issues from free trade to foreign policy, but he also has a demonstrated record of finding bipartisan common ground on budget issues and campaign finance reform.

Feingold also is by far the more candid, more thoughtful candidate. Agree or disagree with his votes, he takes his responsibility to represent Wisconsin seriously, gives each issue full consideration and is willing to explain to the public straightforwardly why he takes the positions he does. It's striking that throughout this campaign, despite the political environment, Feingold hasn't run away from or obfuscated on a single vote he's taken.

Johnson's views, by contrast, at times have seemed strangely veiled. In an Editorial Board interview with the Wausau Daily Herald, he made the bizarre argument that literally any public discussion of foreign policy by a U.S. senator is inappropriate, and that the only way he would pursue changes in foreign policy as a senator would be behind closed doors. Pressed on this, Johnson never acknowledged that in a democracy debate about war policy is a necessary part of public discourse.

It might change a few minds.

2. Have you ever noticed
They never call Sensenbrenner a career politician. (Straight from law school to legislature to Congress, nothing else his whole life. I seriously doubt he had to work his way through college either.)

5. when the ultra righ endorses Feingold over Johnson
you KNOW Johnson is a complete disaster of the highest order.

If I wake up on Wed and he's been selected, I'm going to :puke:

He's poured so much money into "clever" advertising. I hate his lies, but the way he's put it out there - for the ignorant uninformed masses - well, he's making headway with his stupid commercials.

3. What In The Hell Is With That Shit?
Seems like I remember a few years back that they got some new members on their editorial board, and most or all of them a pukes. Guess I should have seen this coming.

6. Canceled subscription
I canceled my subscription to the Daily Herald. I had been a subscriber for 40 plus years. They asked why I did this and I told them the DH no longer supports the middle class but supports corporations.
