Drama in the 7th! Dan Mielke to launch write-in effort!

Rudolph farmer Dan Mielke announced Thursday he will launch a write-in campaign as a Republican for the U.S. 7th Congressional District seat.

The move could throw a wrench into Republican candidate Sean Duffy's bid to replace Dave Obey by taking away votes from the former Ashland County district attorney. Democrat Julie Lassa is challenging Duffy for the seat. Mielke received nearly 20,000 votes in September's primary.

After the Sept. 12 primary, Mielke requested that Duffy sign an affidavit saying he would adhere to six areas Mielke considers critical to conservative values, such as ending abortion, abiding by the Constitution and cleaning up the election process.

"From my perspective, I don't see Duffy as a conservative," Mielke said in an interview Thursday evening. "At least those of us that believe in those principles will have someone to vote for."
