$240,400,000 loss in value for Journal Communications this quarter
"Journal Communications' non-cash impairment charge is expected to primarily affect the book value of its broadcast intangible assets. Intangible assets are non-physical assets of a company, such as its brand name, as opposed to physical assets like buildings and equipment."

Gee - do ya' think that right-wing nut-jobs like Charlie Sykes, Jeff Wagner, Jonathan Greene, James Harris, Bill Michaels, Michael Savage, Dennis Miller, etc. actually bring down the value of their "brand name"?

"impairment charge" is defined as: A specific reduction on a company's balance sheet that adjusts the value of a company's goodwill. Due to accounting rules, a company must monitor and test the value of its goodwill, to determine if it is overvalued. If it is, the company must issue an impairment charge on its balance sheet, to take into account the reduced value of the goodwill.

"goodwill" is defined as: An intangible asset which provides a competitive advantage, such as a strong brand, reputation, or high employee morale. In an acquisition, goodwill appears on the balance sheet of the acquirer in the amount by which the purchase price exceeds the net tangible assets of the acquired company.

1. compared to most
milwaukee right-wing screamers, jeff wagner seems *slightly* more intelligent and reasonable. i've had a few e-mail exchanges with him over some issues, he has been professional, though it's obvious where his bias is. at the end of most of our exchanges we can agree to disagree, and ok by me.

jonathan green needs to be beaten with a sack of bowling balls for some of the stupid shit he says. 'nuff said.

bill michaels never struck me as all tighty-righty, just an overgrown uber-jock that loves talking about sports. never talked politics with the guy, but i've called his show to talk sports. nice guy, and courteous host.

charlie sykes is not as bad as belling, though i do find his smarmy, condescending attitude to be grating and undercuts his sometimes intelligent (and i use that word loosely) points.

2. Bill Michaels
is better suited for professional wrestling than talk radio if you ask me. He's a tool.

3. you'd rather
the host of a call in sports show be some mealy-mouthed milquetoast weenie like alan colmes?

no thanks, i like my sports talkers to have some personality and knowledge/love of the subject at hand.

However, Bill Michaels has no knowledge of the subject on hand.

5. The hate radio squawkers are pretty bad.
James Harris is the poster boy for Stockholm Syndrome. It's kind of pathetic that he gets so much air time.

I once heard that the station doesn't pay anything to carry Michael Savage's program, that it's subsidised by the advertisers who support him, who buy air time from the station, and also pay Wiener/Savage, directly.

Wonder if anything in that arrangement has changed, affecting the station's balance sheets, or with any of the other radio SOB's?

6. Try Gannett's loses
Gannet has monopolies, in print in most of Wisconsin. NE Wisc is 100% Gannett.
They lost over $1Billion since July, but GB's paper was the only one with a profit.
Ad rates in GB have gone way up, since they killed the other local paper.

They owe over $4 Billion in loans, which are due. The stock lost almost 80% in one year.
The Gannett is a hurting unit, but with a lock in Wisconsin, they also like to shift paper media into TV.
Look for them to buy a few more Wisc stations, before some 'finance' issues in the spring.

As far at the jounral, they own GB's NBC affiliate, and are gaining huge market share there.
Talk radio here is as insulting and ignorant, as any in the nation.
Trivial, irrelevant rants of speculation and innuendo.

This are flipped to a solid Dem area, and we have to focus on local government change now.

The GOp has this media, in their pocket, and bloggers have to get into the NE Wisc papers forums and promote facts, and avoid the name callers that dominate those forums.
