Why does Wisconsin have to make everything so complicated!
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 08:00 PM by DollyM
My hubby applied for unemployment extension of the 14th of July, pretty quickly after it was announced. Illinois people started getting their checks last weeks so we are trying to wait patiently for it to start coming from Wisconsin. But no . . . we get a "threatening" call from some dude at Wisconsin unemployment office that he has questions about my husbands claim and his former employer and if he doesn't call by 10 o'clock this am his claim may be denied . . . yada yada. We already had confirmation of the claim by mail and the amount he could expect and thought this would go through without a hitch. But no . . . so hubby dutifully calls this dude and he asks the same exact questions about the same exact employer that he had the claim on when he filed for unemployment and now the unemployment dude has to make "his" decision as to whether he will get unemployment. Uhhhh . . . nothing has changed, it is an extension not a new claim. Hubby said he could hear him turning the pages on his file that he had in front of him . . . but he still asked the same questions that hubby answered 10 months ago when he filed for unemployment. Now do you wonder why your taxes are so high in Wisconsin? You are paying the salaries of people who will call up hundreds of people and ask them the same questions over again when they file for unemployment extention. Of course now we are worried all over again that it won't get approved. Say what you will about people in Illinois (remember there is a whole state of people who are below Chicago and who have never been to or drive in Wisconsin!)but if we had filed here for unemployment, we would have started getting checks by now. Who knows how long it will take to get it from Wisconsin. The first time around it took nearly 6 weeks to get them started while we just about starved to death. The feeling I get is that Wisconsin thinks that any money that comes through is theirs and they will fight you to the death before they let go of it. I mean really, this money is Federal for unemployment extension, all that Wisconsin had to do was release it but no . . . they have to sit on it as long as they can. It is really tiresome. We need to focus our energy on survival and trying to find jobs and instead have to deal with this crap! We tried to cash in hubby's Wisconsin state retirement funds (not much, just a couple of grand but it would pay the bills for a month or two)and found it would take 4 to 5 months for the state to release it. WE are talking about money that was taken out of his paycheck every month, our money, that the state is holding for 4 to 5 more months! They say this is because of the large number of people that are retiring in Wisconsin so they don't have the man power to hire staff to process all the claims . . . hey, why don't they get the dude from the Unemployment office, surely there is a better use of his time than what he is currently doing!!!!
sorry, but we are SO GLAD to be back in Illinois! I just wish we had lost a job here instead and we would have had our money by now. Next time you pay those high Wisconsin property taxes, remember what your taxes are going for, keeping someone on the payroll at the unemployment office who certainly could be better utilized elsewhere, like at the state retirement system office!

1. Sorry, but I'm thinking it is because of the Repbulican legislature.
They have had control of it for too long.

2. Probably taxes are higher because they have to go thru your writing
and put it into paragraphs for easier reading.
