Job salary question HELP!!!
Interviewing for a position at an orthopedics office in Glendale, clerical work, semi-skilled and they want to know my salary requirement. Do any of you have any idea a ballpark figure? I've been doing contracting so long paid by productivity that I have no idea how to even answer this question.

2. Don't underestimate, or sell yourself short, first of all.
You may have "no idea" what you should ask for, but just because there's a blank to fill in, that doesn't mean you have to put a number there.

Think of their request in terms of 5 card stud... poker... you don't have to "call" right away, you can "check" very effectively by telling them you're honestly not sure how to reply because it's been some time since you were paid by the hour.

Explain to them how much work you did, for however much it was that you were paid. Emphasize your dedication, professionalism, and steady and reliable work output, for whatever compensation it was, and you just might get a pleasant surprise, when you put the ball back in their court and ask them, "how much do *you* think I'm worth?"

BEST OF LUCK, with the interview!

3. Thanks :)
I picked a figure that I thought would be worth my time (driving to Glendale) and gas money as well as my work and within 15 minutes they had responded asking me if I would come in for an interview and also if I would potentially be interested in doing transcription for them in the future as they are hiring a new physician in October. She offered me a selection of dates for an interview and I'm waiting to hear back from her about a mutually agreeable time. I'm kind of psyched about it. Not really wanting to have to commute but I think that working at home for 10 years has really isolated me and I'm excited about the thought of working in an office again, even just part time. Even if they offer $2 less an hour than what I asked for I'll be happy with the pay and it should make my financial situation a lot less stressful. I'll just have to figure out when the hell I'll find time to sleep because I'm keeping my other job as well unless this turns into a full-time thing in the future.

So thanks for the wishes of luck and the suggestions. I'm really hoping this pans out and, if not, I'm going to take a part time job at Taco Bell if that's what I have to do. I've got a lot of medical bills to catch up on and then I need to move to my own place ASAP!
