Does anyone have a thought on who to contact and suggest some changes in the VA billing system? We have medical cards due to my husband losing his job back in September but he has used the local VA a few times when he couldn't get in to see his other doctor. Now, (kind of was expecting it) VA is trying to bill us for the visits because our income for 2006 was over income (36 thousand gross, with a family, is over income!)for the dr visits from October 07 to present. We have to get a waiver which lists all our bills and income and send it in and they will waiver the fees. It is just a hassle and I feel, very nosy. If states give the medical cards based upon your income at present to pay your medical bills, why does VA go back to your tax return from 2 years before? I have never understood this. This system needs to be changed! Any suggestions on who cares enough about Veterans to make this change? I know Obama has been very interested in Veterans issues but the last time I contacted him about this, it took months to get a response and then they apparently confused my question with someone elses and I got a response about an issue that had nothing to do with my questions/concerns. My husband just came from the local VA social worker and she apparently doesn't have a clue what we are talking about with the waiver and is also hung up on the tax returns from 2006. I have spent enough time dealing with this I should set up a stand as an independent social worker to help with VA crap!
