Wisconsin's 8th goes 5 points to the left
The Cook Report and other projection analysis groups have taken the long standing 8th Wisc District, from the R+4 standing to a new and far more attractive D+0.
All four groups, which set projections for House & Senate races have taken the 8th a full 5 points to the left, and all have rated it as a "Leans Democrat".

I'm a happy Packerlander.

3. That would be the 5th District
The fighting 5th, as Stephen Colbert would say. There are more Democrats here than you might think, especially in the North Shore and Waukesha. By the time S. decides to retire (2012, according to info recently leaked), we may have a decent chance to take the seat.

6. Any strong Dems eyeing his seat?
Or can we look forward to whatever troglodyte Republican heir S chooses keeping the seat red?

7. This will take work on our part
The district has been turning less red (maybe pink) lately. Washington and Ozaukee are still quite strong on the Republican side, but the North Shore suburbs and Waukesha are coming along very nicely. Who knows what the district will be like after what we hope will be a Democratic landslide in November and the redistricting before 2012?

Bryan Kennedy did a fantastic job given what he had to work with, which included absolutely no help from the state or national party (although Howard Dean did try to help). He might be persuaded to try again in 2012 if things work out right. There are probably quite a few Dems who would step up once Sensenbrenner is gone and the district is more favorable so they wouldn't have to take on the challenge that Bryan was brave enough to accept.

4. 8th's candidate
Rep. Steve Kagen. M.D. D- Appleton is the only candidate officially announced.

The GOP is promoting John Gard to try a re-run of 2006.
Gard has hired Mark Graul as his manager....and we all know Graul.
The evil mastermind behind Mark GReen's failed Gov run in 2004, and his illegal $476,000 finance transfer that was ruled illegal.
Graul also took gifts directly from Jack Abramoff, while Green's top staffer in DC.
Graul ran the insulting campaign of Annette Zeigler, with the help of WMC, the state's insidious business PAC.

So Gard picks the least ethical person, to run his likely to be least ethical race.

Gard has not officially filed any formal candidacy papers, but has been raising money from Southern state PACs.
He has only one Wisc PAC that has donated, the rest are all from far radical right wing southern ideologues.

Kagen should win.

5. That's fantastic news!
Still, Steve will need a lot of help in getting re-elected.
I trust nothing anymore.
