(Charlotte) Pritt's political lawsuit against RNC set for trial this week
FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - A lawsuit that alleges Republican commercials aired during the 1996 gubernatorial campaign were slanderous and libelous is expected to go to trial this week.

The trial comes nearly nine years after Democratic candidate Charlotte Pritt filed her case.

In preparing the case for trial, Fayette County Circuit Judge Paul Blake ruled with Pritt's lawyers that campaign commercials aired by her Democratic opponents in the 1992 and 1996 primary campaigns would not be viewed by jurors.

3. Manchin endorsed Underwood/Jackson Co-Chaired the Group.
I remember well what happened. Joe Manchin III demanded during the primary that Charlotte sign
a pledge to support the eventual nominee. She did but then it was a different story when he
lost the primary. He waited till October and endorsed Underwood!

Lloyd Jackson Co-Chaired the Democrats for Underwood. Gaston Caperton did all he could to help
this group.

There were many good Democrats like Jay Rockefeller, Jim Lees, Ken Hechler, Larry Bailey to
name a few who stood by Charlotte.

Byrd was neutral because he believed women didn't belong in statewide politics.

There were a few Republicans like Richie Robb and Cleveland Benedict who supported Charlotte.

4. Thanks for that roundup!
Of all the players and on which side of the fence they stood. I had moved out of WV by that point and was less informed about all the machinations.

5. You are
Charlotte's cousin? Things have gone steadily downhill since then. This lawsuit has gone on way too long. Good luck to her. And good luck to you in Arkansas.

6. and don't forget the Gazette in that mess
with their vile endorsement 'underwood: the better choice'

journalism died in wv that day. grafitti carried the torch for a while, but eventually sold out when lipton brought in a bunch of rightwingers like dan leroy and chris stirewalt. then he sold the paper and it completely went to crap

9. My Pledge

The night before the election I vowed if Charlotte lost that I would never buy another copy of the Gazzette. I had been a loyal reader for 25 years. I have never bought a single copy since that fateful morning I knew she lost. The Gazzette was already on my shitlist for their anti union ways and them endorsing Underwood was the straw that broke the camels back.

Charlotte's campaign like Howard Dean's showed just how hard it is for somebody who is truly running against the system to win. She was stuck with all that debt.

Every now and then when I look out at my old outhouse, with the Pritt sign still on it I think of what it might have been like had she won. Just once to have somebody who was REALLY for the little guy in office. Then I wake up and smell the coal smoke.

10. First Time Poster....
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 11:31 AM by NathanDNC
Hi everyone,

I grew up in WV but now live in DC, and work for a democratic political organization. Is there anything people can do to help out Charlotte? I am a little out of touch with WV politics, but would be happy to try to help out if anyone knows of anything that might be useful? Letters to the editor, etc...
