Scores of Greyhounds Die in W. Va. Fire

A faulty ceiling fan sparked a fire that killed 73 greyhound racing dogs at a private kennel, the state fire marshal's office said Tuesday.

Losses from Sunday's blaze at ZEZ Kennels were estimated at $1 million, said Kim O'Brien, a secretary for the office's arson and explosives division.

The dogs, which had multiple owners, where kept in cages inside a 60-by-14-foot trailer, officials said.

2. This story made me sick.
It is the second time something like this has happened.

The first thing out of the mouths of the powers that be at the track was that racing would continue.

Good to know. Glad the show will go on.

One more reason to never set foot in that place.

3. Ah, my old stomping grounds...
Brooke County, that is. The place where a young black man is acquitted of assault, and then told, "Stay out of Brooke County, if you know what's good for you, boy."

Also the place where the Fire Marshal, and half (or more!) of the Sherriff's department is on the take. And, let's not forget, Wheeling Downs is the only bar/restaurant complex in the county (Ohio county) that isn't affected by the smoking ban.

The first commanment of legislators: Thou shalt be beholden unto corporate interests.
