South Charleston calls for end to war in Iraq
Good on Chemical Valley! A good friend was there for the signing.

South Charleston City Council members voted 5-4 Thursday night for a resolution calling for the end of the war in Iraq. The vote took place after nearly two hours of debate where almost two dozen speakers voiced their opinions on the issue.

Mayor Richie Robb and Council President Dayton Griffith were the most vocal supporters of the resolution, which passed only after they agreed to remove a hard and fast deadline to bring American troops home from Iraq. The original resolution said soldiers should be home by the end of this year.

Councilmen Ben Paul and Paul Neal, who eventually voted for the resolution, both objected to the definite deadline.

“I would like to see the war in Iraq end as soon as possible,” Paul said. “But we’re there and we need to protect the people that are there.”

2. "We need to protect the people that are there."
What are people thinking? That staying another year, two years, five years, is going to help? That the militant Sunnis are going to change their minds?

There is no possibility for stability under foreign occupation. Without it, there is. Get out now.

4. Excellent!
I was reading this week about Chicago's efforts to go green -- like with the roof at the municipal building -- and the more I read, the more I like.

5. As an alumnus of South Charleston High school,
I say, "Good on 'em!" However, I'm disappointed the vote wasn't 9-0.
