Thurston County health care coalition forms
The American public will have only a small window of opportunity to provide input to our lawmakers in July and August before a final health care bill is adopted. We, therefore, urge grassroots supporters in Washington State who advocate for TRUE health care reform to put pressure on U.S. Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray and our nine U.S. House Representatives (including Adam Smith and Brian Baird ) during this extremely crucial period.

We must demand a cost-effective and sustainable system that provides quality, affordable health care to everyone in the U.S. A single-payer system would be ideal; however, a public plan option that could eventually become a single-payer system would be an acceptable alternative given the current political climate in the “other” Washington.

As debates and deliberations go on in D.C. and as legislation is crafted, details matter! – or we may be stuck with a health care system that is hardly better (or even worse!) than our current, broken system.

For a very limited time, we citizen-voters (constituents) can have some impact on what kind of health care system is eventually created by the lawmakers WE have elected, so local chapters of the Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), Democracy for America (DFA), the Washington Health Security Coalition (WHSC) and the Health Care Coalition of Thurston County, as well as other local organizations, will be holding the following joint meetings:

DATES: Wednesday, July 1st and Wednesday, August 5th (first Wednesdays)

TIME: 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. (please purchase your own dinner or snack)

LOCATION: i.talia Pizzeria, 2505 4th Ave. W, Olympia, WA 98501 (near Borders Books and the Best Buy store in the Westfield Capital Mall in Olympia).

These meetings will provide solid, factual information about the bills and deliberations going on in Congress right now. Then, citizen activists can contact their lawmakers in an informed and focused way so our individual and collective voices are heard by those who work for US in D.C.

We want our lawmakers to remember the essential message:

Listen to the voters ... not to the monied special interests!

Power to the People!

What are President Obama’s health care agenda and goals?
What is “Single Payer Health Care?”
What is a “Public Plan?”
Who are the key players in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate?
Who are our allies?
Who are our foes?
Myth-busting and effective framing

Up-to-date report on proposed federal legislation
What can we do to secure REAL federal health care reform?

PLEASE JOIN US!
Together, we can make a difference!

Sincerely,
Linda and Cheryl
