King County will be purging inactive voter registrations
King County to cancel inactive voters to keep voter rolls current

This afternoon King County Elections will conduct routine maintenance and remove more than 73,000 inactive voters from the county’s registration database.

Election officials cannot cancel and remove voters' registrations simply because they haven't voted. Voters are kept on "active" status until Elections is contacted by the voter, an official piece of mail is returned or Elections is notified by another jurisdiction. Once “inactive,” the voter is given a four-year window in which they can update their information before their registration is cancelled. This list maintenance occurs after federal general elections and typically includes a high number of voters.

“Today’s purge ensures our voter records remain accurate, complete and up-to-date as we move forward with the countywide transition to all-mail voting,” said King County Elections Director Sherril Huff. “It’s important that voters let us know if they move or receive election materials for someone who no longer lives at their address.”

Voters concerned about their registration status can enter their name and birth date in the online “Your Voter Guide” feature at www.kingcounty.gov/elections or call 206-296-VOTE to speak with a voter services representative.
