PI's Joel Connelly calls for McDermott to retire
I don't usually agree with Connelly, but I have felt that McDermott could serve the 7th in a more concrete manner (meaning more MONEY for our needs).

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/connelly/344103_joel19.html

SNIP:
<WELL-HEELED local liberals ought to perform two public services in 2008: The first is allowing Seattle to put a doer in Congress; the second is to give Congressman-for-life Jim McDermott a new life.

The formula will be familiar to those who have greased graceful exits for past-their-prime college presidents, Episcopal bishops gone dotty, or married executives of nonprofits found engaged in office affairs.

A possible arrangement: McDermott's legal bills are paid off. Something gets named after him. And a new posting, possibly meaningful, allows the globetrotting congressman to pursue his interests in HIV/AIDS and South Asia.>

And I do see what he is saying! Bi Right Boss over at the Seattle Times pitched a heart felt article about himself in the Sunday PI /Times. His heart and the heart of the republican right wing. Where it seems Bi Right Boss is contemplating his retirement sometime next year or in 08. Bi Right Boss rather compares himself to Hamlet , To BLOG the old Nixonized way about the world or not to blog. Now clearly and let me make this perfectly clear as the crack in the bell which does not ring in Penn state or the avenue in DC.

Here is a guy that orders storeys ,news, put to sleep, put to bed they call that because the Bi Right Wing cannot gain of it ,- and yet the old crow bar will have the audacity to tel;l old Father Time and Mr. Sandman and all three of them speirts in the beloved Dickins Christmas Carol to fark right off if you get my meaning!

I mean just where the hell do those old foggnozzles get off of it!
Sure Jole has it, perhaps the both of them should just fade away.

If McD. had called out every God Damned Lie Bush told from the day of that statement on and just said ,that,s another God damned lie , than McDermott would have a pulpit with a floor underneith him for which to stand on. And Bi Right Boss, editor Seattle Times ,well, maybe he can join the Bush battalion and brain storm ways to keep it going.

2. Oh, I love how he gets in a dig at Vincent Warner, former bishop of the Episcopal diocese
(I assume that's who he's talking about in the 2nd paragraph.)

Yeah, I see your point here.

3. McDermott is one of the very few noble congressmen

He may not be perfect, he may not bring home the bacon like Patty Murray, but his plusses outweigh his negatives.

If only the rest of congress had listened to Baghdad Jim BEFORE the Iraq war started, instead of voting with their chicken lily livered hearts(Hillary Clinton!) with the president after 9-11, perhaps the USA would not be in Iraq right now. Perhaps then the US would not have squandered $500 billion and the good will of the world community by illegally invading Iraq. If the rest of congress had listened to Baghdad Jim and the International community, instead of the Bushies, we'd be in a much better place, and perhaps, many untold thousands of lives would have been saved.

No, Joel Connelly and Max Solomon, Jim McDermott is my man, and I am proud of him. I will vote for him any day of the week, for he has stood up for the Constitution and the rule of law time and time again, when it was VERY UNPOPULAR to do so.

Oh yeah, and about that Christmas vote? Remember that little thing about the seperation of church and state that's in the constitution? Yeah, I don't know about the rest of yous, but I don't want to wake up in a theocracy one day!

Merry Xmas everyone!
muahahahahha!

4. of course, you're right
but mcdermott's continued presence in the congress essentially means that the 7th is giving up national power & federal money (which is OUR money) to make ethical points. he's there to be a politician, not a martyr.

think of greg nickels' mayor climate initiative - that's the kind of power, and the topic of power, that seattle should be wielding on the federal playing field. we should be the hammer, not the nail. why shouldn't our congressman be the speaker of the house? head of a committee (energy, transportation, ways & means)? he's been there long enough.

5. Max, indeed ,but there is this thing called
The secound shift. More like a wave ,kicks in with the tide. Journalist,s have a tendency to either be on to something, or they are completely OFF. And when they are OFF , they are way-yy OFF, about as far out of the know as it gets.

Mcdermott may be the guy who waited and took the guff.Threw the secound shift he may find his place and take his chair and in power.

Connley writes about the condition of the planet, thats good. The scientists have been writing about it for more than eighty years. It,s been war between science and those oil corperations for comming up on a century Max. He,s off on McDermott, but he just may very well be way off ,to far off.

I could be wrong Max, but I doubt it.After all isn,t there a saying, good things come to those who show restraint and are patient? Nobody likes to wait until the cows come home, but somebody has to really!
