Health-care Public Square features Cantor, Scott
U.S. Reps. Eric I. Cantor, R-7th, and Robert C. Scott, D-3rd, will assess health-care reform at today’s Richmond Times-Dispatch Public Square.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at The Times-Dispatch’s downtown offices, 300 E. Franklin St. Cantor and Scott will briefly outline their positions and then open the floor to questions and comments.

While legislators statewide have been holding their own health-care town halls, this unique Times-Dispatch event will bring together two of Virginia’s congressmen on the subject of health-care reform.

Limited seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-in starts at 9 a.m. in the front lobby of The Times-Dispatch, and doors to the event open at 9:30.

Parking will not be available at the newspaper, but lots and decks are nearby. The event will be streamed live on TimesDispatch.com.

For information or directions, call Robin Beres at (804) 649-6305 or visit TimesDispatch.com, keyword:Public Square.

About 40 people were lined up outside the Times-Dispatch by 8:30 a.m.

Randy Lanthrip was second in line, arriving at 5:45 a.m. to get one of the 225 seats available.

“I’m here for veterans rights,“ said Lanthrip, who retired from the U.S. Army in March.

1. I Was There
It was very good. Too bad Eric Cantor doesn't talk in D.C., as rational as he spoke there. I am always embarrassed, as a constituent, when I see him on the tv, but he did a very good job. I absolutely don't agree with a thing he said, but at least he didn't sound whiney and negative, for change. Bobby Scott, as usual, spoke nicely and made lots of sense to me. And the newspaper did a very good job puttin this on.
